A day to forget.

Postby crusto on Thu Jun 28, 2012 11:57 pm

I suppose this should have gone in the 'today' thread but as today was laughably bad I thought I would bore you all with the details....

First of all, I'd had bad nights kip (about 3hrs) but had to get up early for hospital appointment, cue struggle. So I got up, got ready, left the house and made my way to the hospital. I parked up etc and made my way through the hospital trying to find the correct dept. I found it, booked in and then found out my wife had got the dates wrong, I should have been there yesterday! To add insult to injury, because I was a DNA (did not attend) I will now have to go through the whole referral process again and it took almost 8 weeks this time around! And also, the hospital charged me £2 for the 'privilege' of parking my car for approx 20 mins  .

The flip side to this though was it meant I would be back in time to see my lad take part in sports day. So I made my way to the school and waited around for it all to start. Only for the whole thing to be ruined by a thunderstorm and cancelled :x . My wiffed pissed off to work (taking the car) and I went home, fucked about for a bit and then went up the shops to post some stuff. On my way back another storm gathered, but I was lucky enough to get a lift back to within a few metres of my house. This wasnt enough, however, as it was raining so heavily that I was soaked through by the time I got through my front door.

It didnt end there either as my kitchen had decided it was time to get flooded, water was pissing down through my extract fan above the cooker and because I hadnt spotted it quick enough, it had made its way inside the cooker too. I got it all cleaned it all up, only for another downpour to happen, causing the exact same problem

Tbh, I had lots of other little incidents of bad luck as well but I wont bore you all too much so ill skip a few. But in all that there was another (planned) trip to another hospital for my wife, which meant we got home much later than normal. On thinking that my oven is probably fecked I didnt want to risk any more bad luck by turning it on and trying to cook. So I decided to nip to my local Curry house for a takeaway. Once home, whilst serving it all out in the kitchen, I knocked over my freshly poured beer into my Bose sound dock, which is now fucked. Thats £700 down the drain  And potentially £1500 of oven equipment up the swanny too. I hope the insurance assessor doesnt turn out to be a censored.

So yeah, day to forget! But still, I doubt tomorrow will be as bad. :D

Pretty much sounds like an average day for me!

The cooker will be ok, just don't turn it on until you're 100% sure it's dried out, they're pretty robust simple things really... just like a overgrown toaster or kettle and even if it's not completely dry the RSD trip will normally cut in before any damage is caused

The only bare electrical connections will most likely be where the power cable from the wall switch connects to the cooker's electrical terminals (which are fairly well protected on most cookers anyway), the connections onto the heating elements and at the rear of the dial switches/controls on the front panel, the heating elements themselves can be dripping wet and no damage will occur.. like I said they're basically just like a big kettle

As for your sound dock... well drinking is a mug's game

Days like that just make you want to go to bed pull the covers over your head a pray nothing else happens :D

Cooker should be o.k. The bose you could try taking the back off it and letting it dry out for a day or two to work. Ive found that sometimes helps with water damaged electrical goods.
