Oli Frey cover art

Postby Gren on Fri Aug 03, 2012 7:35 am

Hey guys,

Being of the lazy and dis-organised persuasion, I've only just got around to getting my Crash mag 24 cover framed (only 2 and a half years after I bought it!)
Pic below.

Anyone else buy any of Oli's original art?

Yeah, I've got quite a few pieces here... hopefully now I have a job again, I might be able to afford a couple more.

Very nice! Must have cost a fortune

Which other pieces are you after? All the other Crash covers I wanted have gone :(

Surprised no other forumites have bought Oli artwork - or is Off topic the wrong place for this?!

A reasonable amount of money, yeah heh... although some of them were acquired on "deals" as I bought them together. Got a bunch of Thalamus artwork, and I did get the Crash cover for Flying Shark too (always liked the game and the artwork, even if it was for a Speccy mag heh). Was that one of the ones you had been after?

The Beach-Head II one is awesome.

Same art as on the front of the game packaging? Which came first , the Zzap! cover or the box art? And did Oli do both?

Yeah, it's the same art, if you look closely on the game box, you can see Oli's signature in the corner. I suspect the Zzap!64 cover came first, and US Gold asked to use it for the UK release of the game. Btw that one is more like an oil painting as opposed to airbrush, so does rather stand out in comparison.

Nah, was really after the earlier covers. Issue 5 with the death star cassette trench was the one I really wanted. I'll keep my eyes on the website - no doubt other exciting covers will appear over time!
