Best games on the DS ?

Postby HalcyonDaze00 on Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:57 pm

Just got a Nintendo DS Lite and looking for advice on what the best games are.

I'm not after games that I can get on my 360 or the latest smash hits as I will know about those ( Brain Training, Lego series etc ) Looking for hidden gems that I most likely haven't heard of. Obviously any retro recommendations would be welcomed.

Cheers

New Super Mario Bros is one of my favourites, a great (if easy) 2D Mario game. Both Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent are worth getting if you like platforming/run and gun games. Contra 4 is a must, completely old school and unforgiving action from the get go!

Space Invaders Extreme and Metroid Prime Pinball are both superb.
Of the two Castlevania's, Dawn of Sorrow is the one to go for. Portrait of Ruin is a bit sub par I think.

Electroplankton is an excellent curio- if the idea of a psychedelic musical toy appeals.

Or failing that, Hotel Dusk, New Super Mario Bros, Nanostray 2 and Sims Castaway all have hours of playability.

Oddly, I quite like Elite Beat Agents too I'm afraid.

If you're getting a writable cart, then ZXDS is excellent, as is the MD/Genesis emulator as mentioned elsewhere on this forum.

I don't have a DS(I have a PSP), but I have borrowed a friend's. One of my favourites is 42 classic games (playing rummy, and Ludo, is great fun on this). I would also recommend Mario Kart.

I miss my DS after selling it for a 360 binge, but i'd reccomend getting, apart from the obvious ones:

Race Driver : Create & Race: Brilliant little game. Racing isn't as much fun or as suited to the DS as Mario Kart but the track creator is great fun

Trauma Centre: My girlfriend played this nearly non stop for several weeks. Great game and i think it's better than the wii version. Personally.

Warioware Touched: I searched for 3 months for this; sold my DS after destroying mario and sonic and then it turned up where my girlfriend works! Great game though.

Anno 1701: Although it doesn't really compare to the PC games, great little strategy title.

I also reccomend 42 all time classics, Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros, Castlevania portrait of ruin and Mario and Sonic (but that may just be me and my obsession), Sonic Rush (but not adventure) and as said, the Ace Attorney games. And now i want my DS back...

And absolutely true. Speccy on the DS is the best emulator experience I have ever had.

Space Invaders Extreme is an absolute must.
