Retro Gaming Radio is at an end!

Postby Antiriad2097 on Wed Dec 03, 2008 9:40 pm

Sad news indeed. Shane R Monroe has announced on his forums that after 10 years of shows, Retro Gaming Radio has come to an end:

I can understand that the show is a marmite one, but I'm a fan - I've been with it for many years now, before the dawn of the 'podcast', and I shall miss it. Sure, there will be other shows, and Shane will still contibute his thoughts via those, but this is the end of something special. No more CGE interviews. No more in-depth reviews. No more rants. On eman's personal views on gaming, but views that made me appreciate my hobby more than any other. Predating Retro Gamer by many years, I wonder if without these pioneering channels we'd have seen the mag come together as it did. For a while Shane was even in RG but his written work never reached the heights of his recorded ranting.

RGR, I shall miss you :(

I wasn't a fan per se, but that is more about the lack of production rather than the content.
I did listen to a good few of the shows (and Shane was good enough to mention Weekend Gamer on one show). He got some of the most amazing guests to interview. I wish we had access to just a fraction of the people he got to talk to. I may pick up one of the DVDs to fill in the gaps now that its over.

I've not listened to any of this before but looking at the dvd's are there any periods that are worth getting hold of more than others or are they all just as good?

Listened to his shows on the off chance, never a regular listener. But he did have some interesting topics and the interviews with those involved in the game industry past and present were very insightful, some stuff that I'm sure would never make it onto a commercial publication for some reason or another.

Thanks you sparked it. :)

He used to develop games in Blitz Basic, which I used to do as well (for about a year or so). Will see if they are still available.
