I'm definitely plumping for 'Chuckie Egg' as it has stood the test of time pretty well. I always felt 'Dynamite Dan' was over-rated and was never a great fan of 'JSW'. 'Manic Miner' was ok though and has probably dated a lot less than 'JSW'.

Same here. Never heard or played any of these games despite not owning the Spectrum back then.

Cruel choice: Manic or Chuckie. I plumped for Chuckie. Whereas Manic is a fabulous game, one is restricted to a set route around the screen whereas Chuckie is open-plan which allows for more freedom of play and that arrangement just edges it.

It has to be Chuckie Egg for it's 'out of the frying pan into the fire' gameplay.

Gotta be Chuckie Egg even though they're all great games. I liked the BBC Micro version more than the Speccy version though.

Couldn't decide between MM or CE at first, but eventually went for the latter as it isn't quite so frustrating!

Four good choices there. But, the one i got stuck into most (and also got stuck ON most!!), is Manic Miner. I loved Dynamite Dan and Jet Set Willy and I sort fo have a soft spot for Egg of Chuckie (the missus adores it!), but MM clinches it for me. Why? Its fiendish level designs and enemies plus it has that 'one more go' factor even if you do die over and over again on the same level.

Never played a Spectrum I'm afraid. The closest I got to that era was probably the C64 so guess I would have to say Manic Miner just because I loved MIner 2049'er.

I'm just as shocked as you are!
I reckon Chucky Egg is best ..... I like the game.
I was never any good at Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy.

I plumbed for Chuckie Egg,

Great gane indeed, many an hour spent on that :) the fact is chukie egg is so much fun!

Honourable mention:-

Manic Minor on the Zx Spectrum

This is just one of those games i played a lot, but i found it infuriating at first and then incredibly easy second but through my nostalgic rose tininted glasses I do have fond memories..... lets see I remember when in play you can type the numbers "6031769" and this will allow you to press a number key combination to goto that level i.e pressing the number 1 holding it and then the number 2 key takes you to level 12 etc.

Also, if memmory serves you can break the game, type "Poke 23009,255" and that will give you infinte lives.... ahh great memories

Manic Miner get's my vote for the Spekie, it's got that fuzzy-goodness feel to it. 'Chuckie Egg' would be a close second, but was always a BBC game to me. I first played it at college on the good old Beeb and the Spectrum version just never felt as good.
