How do you clean your console?

Much to my family's dismay, I've just bought a couple more consoles (Nes and a SNES) which are somewhat grimy. The Xbox I bought some time back I used babywipes to clean and it came out ok, but hardly perfect. Interested to know what other people use and if anyone has found anything spectacular?

For psp screen i use: 'Plexus'.

It`s an Anti-static plastic cleaner protectant and polish. Seals the pores of the plastic as it cleans, making light scratches less visible and the cleaning agent is safe to use.

Downside? had to import it-but worth it.

Seen all manner of odd ideas floating on the net for cleaning snes, md cases-Tiny amount of tyre polish, to cutting a lemon or orange open an using that, as citrus is a natural cleaner. NO idea how good or safe these are though.

I take the dust off mine with a sock

When I re-bought a C64 about 10 years ago, I opened it up, and gave it a good clean with a cloth, brush, tissue paper, etc. The case was washed with soapy water. I have it covered with a home made dust cover now, made of clear polythene.

Hi,

I usually use tissue or an old cloth to take off the dust, grime and any stuck residue.

Then I use polish and a clean cloth to clean off the remaining mark, also a toothbrush for the hard to reach places.

On certain spots I spray the polish directly onto the surface, however its recommended to spray onto the cloth.

Then I use Asda Surface cleaner (similar to baby wipes) to go over it as they have some kind of disinfectant in it I think.

Thanks - not sure I'll resort to Oranges as I'm sure anything that acidic can't be good in the long run I used a bit of WD40 on a cotton bud to clean the cart contacts (worked very well) but some of it sprayed onto my Xbox and when I wiped it off, that gave it a nice shine too

Maybe this is a bit off-topic, but I clean old consoles' connector pins by scrubbing the pins to a cart for it with Q-Tips with rubbing alcohol then inserting the cart several times into the console, then re-cleaning the cart, and so on.

I use baby wipes, and just like necronom I've used a sock before. You have to use whatevers at hand...

An occasional brush off of dust for me, I don't tend to really clean them unless I've bought them used and they're manky.

I find a pair of Primark pants works remarkably well as a duster, nothing removes dust from screens quite as well. I'm not sure why they're apparently so sticky/

Yeah, I've been doing that with WD40 - makes a hell of a difference. I bought a box load of SNES and GB games and only about two worked originally..now they all work perfectly! Amazing the amount of dirt on some.

I bought a SNES last year and I got a can of Foamcleanse, by Industiral Solutions from my old work. This stuff absolutely stinks, but it's like a miracle cleaner. You simply spray on, wait 10 seconds til it flares-up and wipe off with a cloth. I use it on my bikes, motorbikes and consoles. It cleans dirt up quicker than a tramp given free-reign with a Tesco trolley in an off-license.

Anyone else use cans of compressed air? A quick, powerful blast of that wonderful stuff gets rid of most dirt and dust. Very handy when you've opened a piece of hardware up and want to get rid of the dirt and dust without actually having to touch the stuff and risk damaging it.

compressed air is far too expensive for it to be worth it, to me at least. My own consoles I just dust but those I acquire that are dirty simply get a going over with a damp cloth and some elbow grease.

I had to use air on my laptop fans as it was over heating due to being full of dust. Worked a treat!
