You should give one of them a go, its like an X-Box 360 kid totally dismissing the old games and stories without trying them first.
Must admit i'm not so interested in the SID chip article but reading about some of the classic DOS games makes me want to try some, the graphics might look outdated but the gameplays still superb on most of them
Trust me i gave dos gaming a go back in the day and all i can say is thank god its dead! Nothing ever worked! While i had a great time playing the lucasarts (and other companies) adventure games and liked doom and wolfenstein most of the time all i can ever remember about dos games was getting messages like error cannot detect soundcard..., error cannot detect hard drive error error error EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!
The fact that joypads never seemed to work on them just infuriated me even more! but I agree dos was great for mouse based games like premier manager, theme hospital and the like... but in the end it just became a lottery seeing if games would actually work properly...
The playstation article is terrific, i like the bits about space channel 5 and pinball revenge of the gator but just from a personal stance there was very little of interest to me for most of this issue. I think you had to be alive at the time to find a review of a defunct games magazine like crash interesting (i did love the article on 1997 era CVG a few issues ago) and i while i can appreciate that the sid chip was important i wouldnt want to read an article about ANY console's sound chip as quite frankly its boring.
But thats just me, I know there are people who probably love what i hate and hate what i love lol!
