You should give one of them a go, its like an X-Box 360 kid totally dismissing the old games and stories without trying them first.

Must admit i'm not so interested in the SID chip article but reading about some of the classic DOS games makes me want to try some, the graphics might look outdated but the gameplays still superb on most of them

When does this issue come out in the United States? I checked Barnes and Noble last week and got issue 70. I'm sad that we are so behind.

I was pleased with the quick link about Manic Miner Lost Levels for DS with flash cart.
I had just bought one that morning and then found the link in the mag!
I had great xmas picking it up and putting it down on and off. Into second set of 20 boards and extra info and boards are interesting.

I also found yesterday a faithfull original port of Andy Nobles 97 version for DS released this year already!

Trust me i gave dos gaming a go back in the day and all i can say is thank god its dead! Nothing ever worked! While i had a great time playing the lucasarts (and other companies) adventure games and liked doom and wolfenstein most of the time all i can ever remember about dos games was getting messages like error cannot detect soundcard..., error cannot detect hard drive error error error EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

The fact that joypads never seemed to work on them just infuriated me even more! but I agree dos was great for mouse based games like premier manager, theme hospital and the like... but in the end it just became a lottery seeing if games would actually work properly...

The playstation article is terrific, i like the bits about space channel 5 and pinball revenge of the gator but just from a personal stance there was very little of interest to me for most of this issue. I think you had to be alive at the time to find a review of a defunct games magazine like crash interesting (i did love the article on 1997 era CVG a few issues ago) and i while i can appreciate that the sid chip was important i wouldnt want to read an article about ANY console's sound chip as quite frankly its boring.

But thats just me, I know there are people who probably love what i hate and hate what i love lol!

Yeah good point, i probably look back with rose tinted glasses, back in those days you had to create a 'boot floppy' so your computer was set up the right way for some of the DOS games. I played duke nukem a ton and the early Star Wars games but yeah at times it was frustrating as hell when it wouldnt run properly

Then you missed the golden age of DOS games, in my opinion, the 80s when you didn't have to worry about soundcards or joypads or anything like that, let alone the vast wealth of public domain and shareware, the big titles were never difficult to get running. In fact, I don't remember anything being difficult to run, you typed its filename in and it ran. *shrug*

Can anybody trade a copy of #71 for an American Dreamcast game? I've got loads of them! We never got #71 here in the States, and that makes me a sad panda.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to Craig for pulling together that SID article. I thought Martin Walker was nigh uncontactable when it came to his days with the C64. I'm glad I was mistaken.

Awesome issue overall. Well done, lads.

Glad you enjoyed it. As for Martin, his interest was piqued when I mentioned that the feature was about music. He's still not interested in talking about the games he made, but music remains his passion. It turns out he looks back fondly on that aspect of his C64 days, not least because of his current work in sound design with relatively low tech.

Interesting (and a little unfortunate). I'm a huge fan of his games and "Walker's Way" in Zzap! (Citadel regularly sits in my Top 5 C64 games). I always hoped that he'd be willing to talk a little more about his games development.

Very happy to read the SID piece though. As always, sterling work.
