i my mind its ff7 but ive never played 1 to 6

I know I am a philistine for saying it, but I don't like the pre-VII FF games. I will always rate VII as the best as it was the first game ever to truly take me into a whole new world with characters that I cared about and a really engaging story.

VII was the first one I played, and the first proper JRPG I'd ever played...it's probably the best storywise, although I do like the more traditional fantasy feel of FFIX, with it's Scottish dwarves and monkey-tailed hero....

Oh, and FFVI definitely has the best soundtrack!

I've only played 8 and 10, but they were both excellent. I'm not sure which I preferred.

IX. The perfect homage to what the series was all about before turning into Emo Fantasy XXVI.

XII, by miles.

VII is very good but for most it was their first game so naturally everyone loves it.

VIII which also happens to be my favourite game of all time.

VI is my favourite of the pre-PS1 games and has a killer OST, Dancing Mad Part 3 being my favourite piece. The PS1 port is horrible but thankfully I also have the superb GBA version.

Got to be ff7. The intro blew me away, flowing from fmv to playing the game. and things just got better from there.

I have to be unoriginal and say VII too. It's one of an exclusive club of just two games that have such an engaging storyline as to have made me actually cry (the other being Metal Gear Solid)
