HISCORE - Arcade Tournament @ ArcadeBarn - 19/20 March 2011

Postby witchfinder on Thu Nov 25, 2010 6:38 pm

As I'm sure the majority of you know, I went to Funspot earlier this year for their annual tournament. It was an absolutely brilliant experience and I desperately wanted to go again next year. However due to financial restrictions that's not going to happen, so instead of paying out tons of cash to go to Funspot, I've decided to bring a taste of the Funspot experience to Britain! :D

So it gives me great pleasure to announce HISCORE - The Classic Arcade Game Tournament, which will be held at the Arcade Barn in Exeter on the weekend of 19-20th March 2011.

The centrepiece of the event will be a Tournament played on ten games from the Barn's impressive collection, the names of which will remain secret until the day of the event and will be selected by Shaun and Aran at the venue. The tournament will be played using the tried and tested Funspot scoring mechanism.

The top three ranking competitors at the end of the weekend will receive prizes as follows:

1st Place: £100 plus trophy
2nd Place: £50
3rd Place: £25

Additionally, just like Funspot, we will be running two 'mystery game of the day' competitions (one each day obviously!) with their own prizes of £15 each.

The Arcade Barn has around 40 machines including such classics as Pac-Man, Gauntlet, Defender, Galaxian, Marble Madness and Dragon's Lair II so there will be plenty of chance to play other games as well as competing in the tournament. I also intend to get a couple of classic consoles set up for multiplayer gaming.

The venue is quite small so there will be just 40 tickets available at a cost of £15 each. I expect most of these to be snapped up quickly and am offering RG Forum members the opportunity to reserve a ticket - just PM me with your email address to be added to the list and as soon as the tickets are on sale you will be given first refusal before they go on general sale. You will be able to pay for your ticket by Paypal gift or cheque.

A website is now up at www.hiscore.cgeu.info with the tournament rules, directions to the venue, suggested accommodation and so on.

If you want an idea of what you may be in store for at the Barn, check out my YouTube video:

And before you Northerners start claiming it's too far away, I got down there from Stoke in around 3 and a half hours and Rinoa got there from Liverpool in 4 hours, so it's really not that far compared with travelling to Funspot itself for example! ;)

Oh, and the Exeter nightlife looked pretty good from what I saw on the Saturday we were there...

You have the benefit of a motorway heh... I think it would take me about four hours to get down there as well...!

List updated - 15 places reserved already! :)

For those of you asking about accommodation, not sure which is best yet but there are plenty of hotels nearby - the Barn is only 5 minutes from the City Centre. It would be good if we can find a place that we can all stay at though - I may even look into getting a reduced deal...

To be fair it is quicker to get there from Stoke than it is from London. Still, if you win first prize then your transport costs are paid for! ;)

Wow, how good's that? Just about to PM you to stick me on the list but I'm already there :D

The Jury's Inn in town's an option if people are looking to stay together. Not the cheapest, but it's only a short drive away from the venue.

When will the tickets go on sale? I'd quite like to go but cashflow might be a little tricky this side of Christmas.
