I was never into scrolling beat-em-ups. They all kinda count as the same game to me.

SOR2 Should win this easy, however in SOR3's defence the Pal and US versions have been ripped to shreds by the US censuring of the game that saw, bosses removed, including an effeminate biker boss who's name I forget The whip ladies have their clothes and colour palettes changed, The difficulty ramped up to the extent that by the later levels its ridiculously hard.. on Easy/Normal, a change in pacing that makes the game completely flat and chore like in places and a complete change of plot (President to Mayor). In short get Bare Knuckle III solves all the above issues and importantly plays much better. With these changes to how it should be and the multiple endings SORIII/Bare Knuckle III becomes the better for it and would rank it as

Serious contender for one of the worst game on the Megadrive is SOR3 its been ruined that much. I got a US NTSC SOR3 last xmas and less than 6 weeks later had brought Bare Knuckle III ( from the proceeds of selling SOR3)

I'm going to be somewhat childish and stump for Blazing Knuckle 3, with its inclusion of one of the most hilariously stereotyped character designs I've ever seen. If you don't like Ash, then you're a po-faced misery guts! And to claw back some respectability: there are secret characters to unlock, characters can run, and Axel isn't ridiculously overpowered in this one. I found the way weapons could be used to be particularly neat. Having said that, after being spoiled by SoR2's fantastic presentation BK3 is definitely something of a backwards step. Where have the nice, chunky sprites gone? And the music is fairly bland. Shame!

What he said. The US and European versions of the third in the series are shockingly poor, and seem to have difficulty settings appropiate only for superhuman gamers!

Streets of Rage 2; everything from the original was improved on.

Streets of Rage 2 is the best without a doubt. One of my favorite scrolling beat 'em ups ever, and I never get bored playing it. Great graphics, amazing sound and most importantly gameplay that feels right with lots of satisfying moves.

The first game is decent but basic in comparism, and the third (both in pal and jap form) is pretty rubbish.

First one is very dated now whereas the 2nd is still brilliant. The third was pretty cack too.. rubbish characters and added nothing new. By far the best thing about the 2nd game is the outstanding soundtrack! Even if one of the tracks is a complete ripoff of 'The Shamen - Move Any Mountain'

Also the music from the first stage 'Go Straight' uses a sample very similar to the track Landlord - I like it.

Surely this has to be the one of the most pointless Hot Topics ever? There's never going to be more than a handful of people who don't think that the second game is easily the best of the trilogy, it's been a well known fact for years. Did you just want to see exactly how much of a landslide SoR2 was going to win by, Darran?

Even though I believe SoR2 is better, I had the best memories with SoR1, mainly because it was the only game I could get my mother to play, and seeing a failing mother playing video games is like gold-dust to a child.

SOR3 was a good game, however BK3 was much better, what was with the PC's costume changes? Totally pointless.

I can understand them taking Ash (the gay biker) out, but still pathetic!

The change in storyline character was ridiculous also!
