Additional folders?

Postby Darran@Retro Gamer on Tue Dec 06, 2005 12:55 pm

Does anyone want to see any additional subjects that aren't already being covered by the main folders?

Darran, what about an public area to discuss the likes of recommended retro sites, announcements, etc, etc.

I'd personally suggest keeping folders to a minimum, otherwise the forum could become fragmented. (Not that I'm also suggesting this because I don't have time to regularly check loads of forums, of course. Oh no.)

I would say that there are enough folders at the moment - a folder for plugging sites etc might be a good idea, as long as a webmaster doesn't start numerous threads for his one organisation (no names mentioned but I have seen this happen elsewhere!)

You could also say that the high scores belong as a subsection within the games section.

I ceratinly agree with not creating too many folders. Could be be good if your profile allowed the option to select which folders were visible, (whoops, I'm in Outlook mode)

As long as they don't contravene section 5 of the policy listed here...

Acceptable Use wrote:5. No commercial use. Our forums are for topic discussion only and its use for commercial, press releases, adverts, or any other solicited or unsolicited commercial communication posting is strictly forbidden.

So anything related to information sites etc would be fine... anything for your web based shop would not.

The rules would have to be reviewed for any forum changes like this - on one hand I don't object to people advertsing retro goods (whether it is links to eBay items or a retro shop) but I do sometimes wonder how many people join a forum just to plug their wares and have no intention of joining in discussion?

High scores could just as easily be dealt with by using a "sticky" in the relevant forum, couldn't they? And the same goes for various other things, such as a "links" section.

Never have a forum with too many options! It looks a bit silly when people don't post in all of them, or post in the wrong ones and mods have to spend ages cleaning up.

I think wht you have is just about right. Maybe I would argue for an "Announcements" thread, but other than that, keep it as it is.

I agree! That's something that I miss from the old Retro Gamer forum.

You can't beat a good Tech section.

Does Techy stuff just go in the Q+A or should there be a Tech Section?

Now I just need an amusing tag line.
