New sub forum

Postby Darran@Retro Gamer on Thu Mar 10, 2011 11:31 am

Due to numerous requests I have created a new sub forum called We love new games.

This forum has been specifically set up to include all current gen systems. So all PSP, DS, Wii, PS3, 3DS, iPhone, iPad chat will now take place in here. GameCube, PS2, and Xbox are now retro, so deal with it ;)
I would like to point out though that the above statement doesn't mean you'll start seeing lots of coverage in the magazine.

The decision of what is and isn't retro is clearly stated, so please try to refrain from 'that's not retro' arguments as they're rather boring and we've all participated in them a million times before.

Hopefully this new sub forum should keep everyone happy.

What do we class as new games?

Just current gen releases?
Last gen releases also?
Any Sealed game, i.e. As New?
If above is true where is the universally non agreed cut off point the dreamcast?
What am I talking about?
This seemed funny when I started now its just embarrassing?

LOL FFS - was the first post not clear enough? Just post where you think and if a mod wants it moved they'll move it.

Good idea with the best intentions, but the arguments won't stop overnight. :P And where else do the guys at the very top actually listen to us - that's why we love RG!

That's a terrible name for a forum section, surely we'd also need a we hate new games one, which'll no doubt get filled quite quickly.

I think he was taking the censored, especially as Darran mentioned the PS2, GC and XBOX are retro, as the Dreamcast came out BEFORE those (and yes I know games are still being made but so are PS2) lol!

Terrible idea full stop in my opinion. "lets fragment a forum because people can't read the subject headers"

Its a real pity, cause its in danger of decreasing further the traffic on here.

Ah well . . .pity cause I'll miss a lot of the opinions on here, which I have enjoyed reading since I became a member - I can't be bothered with having to "guess" where to put my postings, forums should be easy to use, not difficult & a lot of people feel similarly.

I'm a gamer. I don't divide between retro and current - I enjoy it all, like many do - in fact, I've had PMs about this since a rant the other day!

Anyway, had my say on the subject & won't add anymore. . . pity.

It would have been interesting to have had a poll before the decision was made, as I don't think >50% would have wanted a split.

One reason I don't like it is that it adds more hassle when marking forums read. If the stupid board software didn't have the totally pointless and annoying "The topics for this forum have now been marked read" page, it wouldn't be as bad, but there is now another forum to mark read all the time.

Plus I don't see the problem in the first place. If there is an xbox thread I ignore it. If there is a PS3 thread I look at it, etc.

:?

So the forum becomes hard to use with a modern gaming section? I don't like the idea - but that was just
