I rarely play new releases, mostly indie stuff and some titles that intrigued me like Dead Space, Duke Nukem and Dungeon Siege.

I probably own around 3-4x more games for current gen consoles than retro game consoles. While I enjoy the retro games more, I tend to play more modern games due to the lengthier playtimes. Most retro games can be beaten in an hour or less if you know all the traps and tricks involved.

I said no, because the poll asked a very spacific question with two very spacific and ploar answers.

I do own modern consoles and ocasionaly play modern games.
But that wasn't the question asked!

Hmm, I just read this thread through again, and think the results of this poll may be very skewed because a lot of people may be reading the question wrong.

To me it isn't asking if you play games initialy written for the current generation consoles on the curent generation of consoles.

It is asking, do you rush out and buy the latest games for those consoles as near as dam-it to when they are released?

And judging from the replys most people are saying they do not, although the poll sugests (to me) that most people do.

What is this information for, may I ask?

I thought Darran clarified it here:

So, basically the question was really about whether you're interested in what the developers of games that are now retro are up to these days.

Not to mention all the developers who haven't developed anything retro due to not having been in the biz long enough.

I voted 'Yes' as I do still on occasion buy games on their release date. Last time I did that was for the re-boot of Splatterhouse., before that Castlevania.

Yes, many. Way too many in fact. If I think a game will drop in price quickly I'll wait though.

I voted yes solely for the older obsolete platforms, as new releases are being released to this day whether it's free or not. I'm not so struck by the 1990's+ console systems as over the years they lost something important along the way for me, but there has been some great games such as COD, the original PS1 Silent Hill, Mario Karts, Star Wars Racer, Sonic and FIFA to name a few. PC games I'm less interested in apart from the odd free flash games.

Anyway I recently bought "Adventures In Time" on disk from Psytronik for the Commodore 16/+4, and what a great new release it is, nice packaging too :)

These days? Pretty much exclusively, although you might claim some of them are retro styled.

Pretty much because I've played just about everything I want to from the 80s and 90s and now retro seems to have reached the point around PS1 where retro games are now exactly the same as modern games but uglier and slower.
The average game player is 33 years old.
The average age of the most frequent game buyer is 38 years old. 92 percent of computer game buyers and 80 percent of console game buyers are over the age of 18

Lacking a PS3 or 360, I don't think of myself as being up on current gaming releases, but I guess I do cover a bit of a modern spectrum with my Wii and modestly underpowered mac mini + bootcamp.

I probably play more modern games than I do retro these days, though I can rarely be bothered with 'modern' games mags as I find FPS tedious and they seem to make up 90% of what gets released. The other 10% has some real gems though. :D

I've voted no, but it's kind of a 90% no. I do own a Playstation and play fairly recent football games. It's mainly used for DVD plying though, my retro consoles are the ones I use for real gaming.

The last new release i bought ASAP was Mario Galaxy 2, everything else I tend to wait for when it comes down in price (very angry at DKC Returns for not heeding me on that one... Sale price at £37.99 is not a sale it's an insult to my wallet) But on the whole I'd say I play New (So current and last Gen I'd say) and Retro 50/50, both camps seem to offer something the other doesn't. I hope I answered this properly, hence my two answers :)
