Glad you liked the C64 list Andrew. It's an admittedly predictable list (all the usual suspects are there) but they're not necessarily in the order you'd expect.

It wasn't easy writing 10 pages on the C64, but I managed to keep the bile down.

Absolutely, if someone were to do an extended article on Cassette 50 or "Don't Buy This" it'd love that.

Mind you, I draw the like at Amstrad games!

Bile or keeping the magazine costs down, bile or keeping the magazine costs down... your dedication and devotion to the magazine knows no bounds Darran ;)

A big return to form this issue for me after the last 2 or 3. There wasn't much wrong with the other ones, they covered stuff I'm not as interested in. Great article on FF7.

Really enjoyed this issue.
FF7 piece was fantastic as was John's article about the X68000. Reminded me a lot of my broken machine which sits proudly in the corner of my games room.
Paid a small fortune for it only for it to arrive 'broken'. Probably caused by damage in transit.

I read this months issue faster than any other - that's probably due to it being jam packed with stuff I'm really interested in - not that it's better than other months, per se, but it was an absolutely excellent issue. Lucky me.

Now, explain to me one thing - How in the name of all that is holy did Mayhem in Monsterland not even get in the top 25, never mind not winning it! People are idiots, sorry. There are brilliant games on the C64 (my 9 year old self is spitting at me) and many were mentioned in the article, but there's a fair load of overrated, dated tosh in there too.

Anyway, that's just opinion, as is my next point - Radiant Silvergun just isn't that good. I will be glad to read next months issue if Darran has stopped soiling himself over it ;)

And Auf Wiedersehen Monty was the best Monty game. No, it bloody was. No, you shut up.

I really don't have any actual constructive criticism this month, I've just noticed.

PS the cover was just dandy, thanks. Next month though, for the sake of appeasing the hardcore, perhaps a screenshot from Moon Patrol on the 2600? Because, y'know, we want the mag to sell well, and what better way, eh?

Having played through significant portions of each game to take a ton of screen grabs for the Monty Mole piece, I can very much say: no, it wasn't. It really, really wasn't.

Because it was a reader vote, and most people had moved on from the C64 by the time the game came out. Hence most likely never played it. I was one person who did vote for it, but that's because I was still around then in the scene, aside from also playing on my import SNES.

I don't think that game would make my top-25 on the C64 anyway, despite playing it plenty. The later levels are quite badly designed and very unfair. Technically, it's a marvel, but some of the gameplay design leaves a lot to be desired (unlike, say, Turrican 2, which is generally a lot better).

Whats the issue? There are lots of regular faults with X68ks, a lot of them easily fixable.

Conversely, I found Turrican 2 to be rather easy, despite being an excellent game in general. It took me about four days to complete it...

Just got mine.

Cover was seriously bleh. For your sake I hope it gave you sales...
Monty: Grrrrreat stuff!
25 '64: Can't forgive you for missing out Dropzone. Seriously. Barbarian was pretty meh and made me scratch my head as to why it was included.
