True, the CPC version absolutely pissed all over it.

Blame all the forum members on here, and readers from other forums. They are voted. I just tallied everything up and forced myself to write nice things about Commodore 64 games (I just pretended I was playing CPC games were applicable).

It wasn't easy writing 10 pages on the C64, but I managed to keep the bile down.

 Just adds fuel to the theory that CPC owners were like cows and had 4 stomach compartments.

 C64 owners meanwhile, had wonderous sense of hearing (ahh SID) yet vision was poor, saw life in blocks lot of the time. Speccy owners were the opposite to a degree, terrible hearing, colour blindness, but razor sharp vision, saw things in higher res and 3D movement was lot faster.

A8 owners meanwhile, powerful, but sadly ignored and missunderstood beasts. Often spooted gazing longingly at a herd of conversions as they grazed on the carcass of a far more powerful coin-op.

Whats the issue? There are lots of regular faults with X68ks, a lot of them easily fixable.

Thanks Oli but my x68000 is gone for good i think.
When i got it, switched it on, loud bang and smoke started to come out of it. There is now a large burnt patch on the motherboard.
Don't really know what happened? I think that something may have came loose in transit?
The seller is ok. I've dealt with him many times before and since.
My own stupidity really. I should have checked it out properly before switching it on.

I did Darran.
Still presume that maybe one of the chips came loose in transit?

A quick post to say what a well written article the Domark feature was. I love reading about those extra bits of info' only gleaned from interviews with those involved rather than simply reading stuff which can be commonly found on the 'net, e.g. the story of how they acquired the home computer rights to publish Atari's Star Wars trilogy of arcade games was something I really enjoyed. :D

Are you sure it is on the motherboard and not the power supply bit? The capacitors on the power supply are very flakey and leak/blow out a lot, but it is a standard part and easy to replace. Take a photo of the area and post it on the X68k SIG on NFG Games (they seem to focus on the hardware there) and may as well try the lovely Tokugawa forums at the same time. It would be a shame to have such a rare piece of hardware junked, especially if it is fixable.

This is if you've still got it of course?
