The problem with the visuals is that on a HDtv the resolution does not fit but on an SD tv there is no 60hz mode so jaggies and flickering are more visable. Like Xenoblade, this does not run in 60hz properly.

That aside, this game is amazing and the best I have played this year. 13 hours in now, into the third ground based area and I have had no issues at all. Combat is exciting, items are clever and locations are lovely.

I just got to the second main area. The first boss fight (demon lord) was a big letdown but still having fun. I keep getting flashbacks of previous zeldas while playing. The camera and some of the controls are still a pain. When I worked out what to do with the eye above the door puzzle it made me laugh out loud, by the third one I was fed up of it. I suppose that sums up motion controls for me, brilliant if used in small doses but it wears thin pretty quick if used to often.

i was enjoying it, but now the sword fighting/motion control is starting to really bother me, i just don't feel in control.

i hate the way the baddies block everything i'm trying to do, i'm very obviously doing a move from a direction that the enemy isn't blocking, yet they still block it. the spiders are a pain to fight, having to flip them over is fine, but this doesn't always activate the controls for the jumping stab finishing move, meaning i have to flip them over four or five times for the control to activate.

i'm fighting the first dungeon boss and its making me angry, its so tedious that he catches the sword everytime.....i've felt frustration before in a zelda game, but its always a positive frustration about working out a puzzle. this anger however is directed at the lack of control i have, and that nintendo designed situations for the player that make the lack of control even more frustrating. if i ever have to waggle the wii mote and nunchuck again to get out of a danger situation i'm going to throw the f**king thing out of the window.

i'm going to give the boss fight another go in case i'm missing something obvious, but if i spend another ten minutes ineffectually waggling those effing controllers this will be the first zelda game where i don't even bother getting past the first dungeon.

Yeah that boss is crap. I found it easiest not to lock on, just run around. Just after he teleports he's vunerable, run up to him as quick as you can to force him back so he teleports again. There's not much technique to it, just waggle the wiimote real quick and get in his face.

Patience is the key. You have to not attack him and wait for his hand to move then attack. You cannot just swing and expect to hit everytime. Move the remote slowly around and his hand follows, wait for him to hesitate and go in for the kill. Two swings of the sword then swing both to get the spin hit for more damage.

The controls are amazing. I have played with patience and not died once yet. Every enemy so far can be despatched with skill and timing.

Apologies if you're already doing this, but I've noticed that it helps to get your sword in position before you swing.

What I mean is if he's blocking to Link's left, but your sword is drawn across Link's body, he'll perform a back hand swipe which will be blocked. You have to bring your sword back over to Link's right first to be able to attack the baddie's unguarded side.

thanks for the tips everyone :)

finally got past the boss fight, had to wait for him to teleport in behind me then i could slash him up.

the controls do make sense, i think its more a case of me finding out the timing needed by the game for moves and exagerating the moves, rather than flapping like a berk. would still prefer to use a standard controller i think.

Believe it or not I was struggling to kill the Deku Babas that you come across early on in the game due to my constant waggling of the remote, as soon as I started acting like I was using a real sword it just clicked, I'm yet to reach the 1st boss as I'm only playing it when the kids are here, I've just finished finding the Kikwis, so I guess I'll have to see how I get on

Yeah I struggled with the simple enemies early on as well. I've only just recently sussed that the deku-babas alternate between needing vertical and horizontal swipes.

The combat does get more second nature the longer you play.

Anyone else barely use their shield?

Not a lot, i'm concentrating so much on sword fighting! There are some great enemies in the 3rd dungeon, they are tough to beat and require some real skill and clever timing.
The combat really shows what motion control can do though.

Im considering getting this, but do you have to exclusively use the wiimote/nunchuck? I wont bother if thats the case. I just like to sit and chill when I'm gaming. Plus if my nipper cottons on to the whole idea of wii controls then Ive had it. Cos then ill have to get the kinect and move too.

Picked this up recently with the collector's edition. Haven't started the game yet as I'm currently back and forth between Arkham City and Twilight Princess.
