My copy of the new issue arrived this afternoon. I'll read it once I've recovered from laughing at this comedy gold...

Why?
Do you not agree?
Surely the Gameboy was superior? - better price point, larger and more varied game library, better battery life and actually portable (by 80s standards).

Having said that, the Lynx article will be the first thing I read. I'm a sucker for the underdog.

Magazine as a whole looks good, although I have to say, Super Star Wars again? - surely there are many many many other much better Star Wars games that deserve the coverage?

Cracking issue to end the year with!

Totally enjoying the ZZap64 and Cover Tapes articles. Plenty o' retro goodness in the rest of the articles to last me a while.

Or to put that another way since you asked:

Cheaper for good reason, horrid monochrome screen that blurred horrendously, tons of mostly mediocre quality games with a handful of reasonable ones... and Tetris, relatively dreadful sound, Fisher Price aesthetics, poor ergonomics which made your hands ache after a while, graphics that were so relatively inferior it was embarrassing, better battery life and more portable while still far from being ideally sized.

Anyways... this is off topic so maybe a 'Lynx vs. GameBoy' thread could be created in the main sub-forum. :D

Love the cover. Reminds of the Zzap and Crash Crimbo covers back in the day. Great stuff!

Good work getting it out today. If there is going to be a powercut due to the fierce breeze up here then I have a torch on standby! Also Kudos for the "Brucie Bonus" on page 7

Just read the Lynx article and thought it one of most well-written and well researched pieces I've ever seen in Retro Gamer. Great stuff! :D

You're joking right? Jagfest has already pointed out some silly errors I made.

Nope. Those small errors didn't at all detract from the overall high quality of the article. :D

One of the reasons I found it such a great read was down to the interesting tales of what it was like on the 'inside' as told by the devs. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I love reading info' in the mag' that generally can't be gleaned off the internet and/or is common knowledge to many of us retro gamers of a certain age. Interviews with game devs is something I think the mag' really excels at.

Ken didn't get a mention, but his predecessor Dim Dim did...

Really enjoyed Graeme's piece on CRL, Ashley Day's epic Dragon Quest rundown and Darran's interesting angle on the Lynx. Felt it had a very nice range of articles all together, and even though it was short there was a lot to like about the Aztec Challenge "director's commentary".

Went straight to the Lynx and Zzap articles last night.Fan-ruddy-tastic.The pair.Lynx piece might have errors, but welcome to the human race....i found it a glorious piece to read, Lynx so oft.ignored, but holds a special place in my personal history of gaming.

Do own a GB, was given it as an Xmas gift, but try as i might, i find it wretched, no amount of tweaking to the settings can seem to make the screen watchable for my tastes.

The opening sentence of the "The Lynx Effect" article is for me quite possibly the single greatest sentence I've ever seen in RG...

"If there's one handheld that gets constantly derided by the uninformed, it is Atari Corporation's Lynx."

Spot-on, Darran!
