lol, looks like everyone came to the same conclusion!

TBH I'd rather have the option to move my sub to the £22.50 rate and get the limited edition mug.

However I suspect that's not an option so I guess I'll just cancel my sub and start another in my wifes name (or something)

Hmmm, if I'd bothered to find out what the saving was for me I may have written something similarly sacrastic in my last post! I was thinking about getting a sub in the wifes name too but can't work out if it's worth the hassle....it's a mug so probably not.

As an existing subscriber for some years now I'm perfectly happy with the price discount on the magazine, don't care one iota about not having a freebie mug and are more than satisfied with the response of the magazine's Subscriptions Manager.

one mans 25p per month saving is another mans 'free' limited edition mug...a choice would have been nice for the £100s I've invested in the mag :|

I got a free Mega Drive DTV thing when I first subscribed way back around issue 3 (or was it 2?).

I think. It might have been from issue 19 when it relaunched.

Either way, I've got (almost) 100 issues of RG at discounted subs prices so I'm not complaining.

I subscribe as sadly newsagents down here just don't stock the magazine.

So far, never missed an issue, had late delivery of an issue and on the 2 (rare) occassions i've needed to phone up customer service as my magazine has arrived with damage (not caused by Royal Mail) Lucy has been a joy to deal with and i've had replacement issue within days.

Personally rather have that warm feeling of knowing i've a great customer service dept. running with the magazine than a 'gift' now and then.

Magazines in general are always going to be tempting newcomers with a free gift of some shape or form, part n parcel of the industry and more subscribers means stronger future for the magazine...right?.

It's kinda like buying a new console, only to see price drop mere weeks after, 'you' bought the machine for price you were then happy with, if cheaper price means more users, which in turn=more support, it's not really a bad thing.

It is only a mug, and only a tenner, can't really get that worked up about it TBH.
I did think I had a free mug, and then realised I didn't. Then I read this thread. That's pretty much it.

Yeah, I lost about £50 when the first company went bust and I lost my Sub, so I can't get too bothered about a cup.

I concur with what most of you are saying.
Whilst the action of giving out free gifts to new members/subscribers is common it doesn't make it right.
The loyal, long term subscribers should always come first and any offers should also be made to them/us.
The Magazines owners know this but won't do anything about it unfortunately. They should immediately send the Mug to all existing members but they won't.
It stinks.
I've been a subscriber since issue number 1. Does that loyalty count for nothing?
And don't get me started on the cheaper rates if you pay by Direct Debit...grrrrrr....

God, you guys, its only a 'kin mug - snot like it's anything good like stickers or anything.

Besides, I'm not a subscriber and I didn't receive an email :( I feel left out.

Anyway, I think I should receive a free mug, as every time I go to WH Smiths I spread the copies of RG across the shelf over the top of far inferior niche interest magazines. Free advertising = free mug methinks :)

This reminds me. As a goodwill gesture, the new company gave previous subscribers 3 free issues of the new mag. It may not have covered our losses, but as that had nothing to do with them it was a nice token gift to instil some confidence in the new management. Wonder if Daz had anything to do with that decision?

I called subscription companies before about this issue with other mags, they usually tell me to cancel my subscription (you'll still get any issues owed) and take out a new one to start after my current deal ends.

Not a big deal if you really want the gift and you were going to renew every six months automatically anyway.....

For me it's the word 'limited' attached to this - is this mug for new subs only?

I'm a collector to, so a limited edition mug of the only mag I sub to would be very nice thank you very much.

"Not as if it's stickers or anything"? For starters stickers would cost less. Plus for everyone who likes stickers, there would be just as many who would want a mug. Plus it's easy to say "It's just a 'kin mug", it's not really about the mug. Like I said, I'm not angry about it, but some people are missing the point.

Trying to summon the energy to give a fig about missing out on free mug Vs a 3 quid saving a year....to be honest I'm struggling, especially when the house is coming down with mugs.
