The Jag was the only console to get this (unlike the first game, which appeared on loads of different formats) and its a very decent platformer which is much improved over the original. It's not as good as Rayman but if you like 2D platformers this is probably the second best one on the machine.

Actually it was on the Amiga CD32 too but yeah Zool 2 is rather good. I personally prefer it to Rayman because I more enjoy fast paced platformers like Sonic and Zool than slower more timing based ones like Mario and Rayman. It only just missed out on being included in first 10 along with a few other games like Dragon, Cannon Fodder, Theme Park, NBA Jam: TE and Brutal Sports Football which I mainly missed out because they also had good showings on other platforms.

Comparing it to the other billion formats. the Jag version of Rayman is crap. Fewer levels, no shrinking, no sliding, and the music is of a lower quality (obviously). Looks nice, but that's about it. You're much better off with the Saturn or PS1 version.

Yeah, if anything I'd be selling the Jaguar on and buying a PlayStation or Saturn.

Yeah, I remember. But I don't tend to count the CD32 as a pukka console - to me it's just an A1200 with a built in CD ROM and the keyboard ripped off. That's just my personal view though!

Lens Of Truth looked at both PS1+Jag.versions:

'Finally, since the Jaguar version was stored on a cartridge and not a CD, it featured lower-quality music than the PlayStation version. But before you declare a winner, the PlayStation wasn’t that much better.  It also had some key features missing as well. For instance, when a level begins the Jaguar has the word “ACTION” animated while falling out of the sky, and depending on the level, it was different each time. The PlayStation version was missing this entirely. We also noticed that on the Jaguar version, when Rayman stands idle for a short time, he plays an idle animation where he looks at the screen. To make a long story short, both versions had their flaws.'

Surely you aren't comparing a few missing animations to missing content?

So, Jag has levels, shrinking, sliding, and high-quality music missing, while the PS1 version is missing an animated word and an idle animation (and I'm 100% sure the PS1 version had an idle animation too). Yeah, you've really changed my mind on that one.

You could've at least mentioned the mini-game...

EDIT: Beaten to it.

Seen as its a slightly different game to the other versions its obviously going to be missing things isn't it?

What's wrong with owning a Jaguar as well? I own all 3 and the Jaguar offers a very different gaming experience to either of those machines.

Thankyou for once again adding your well informed opinion into another Atari thread.

We get it, you think everything by Atari is censored so do us all a favour and post in the threads that interest you rather than the ones that don't.

:? Who's trying to change anyones mind on Rayman? I'd much rather play Rayman 2 on DC than ANY version of 1st game.

Point of posting the comparison was that there really was'nt a flawless version of Rayman on any format, each version had it's pro's and cons.

PS and Saturn had advantage of extra storage space, more powerful hardware, yet added loading times as data pulled from disc, game started out on Jag, ironically Jag version released tad later.

Swings and roundabouts:If i'd make any kind of comment, Jaguar version probably stood out more as it's a 'wheat' game among a lot of chaff for the system, where as PS/Saturn owners at the time had rather wider selection of quality games to get their mits on.

To be honest, it's the controller.

To be honest, i'd hope he isn't. Just he always seems to be involved in the threads that involve moaning/flaming/hate.

I am no saint though. I love a good troll.

Personally I love the controller and have never understood all the hate it gets. In fact when I finally got the internet I was utterly stunned to see all the abuse it got because I had never once heard anyone who had played on my own Jag moan about it.

In fact this controller has to be one of my favourite ones ever:
