When I saw you post in here at first I had a look to see what you said for the record. :D

Am I really that bad? haha. I do have some retro love, and that's all we need, right guys? +Rinoa.

For the record, or Nakamura's

1 - I think the atari jaguar stinks.
2 - I do miss Speedlolita.
3 - If you think the Wii console is sh!t, then you clearly are not a well travelled gamer. It has some incredible games.
4 - Just becuase this is a retro forum, doesn't mean modern gaming should be frowned upon
5 - I have never completed a Final Fantasy game.
6 - I do not think The vulture is a troll, well at the very least a negative troll.

It is more than you post what you think, which I like. :D At the same time though, you aren't ignorant.

Where is speedlolita then?

No idea, i guess he's over on an anime forum somewhere banging on about some Japan gaming, or over at NTSC-UK, which I have maybe posted on twice. Maybe i'll log in and see

As I don't actively collect anymore, I can't say I bump into him on the internet as much (which is quite odd frankly)

I thankfully have one of these instead...

Yeah it was a real disapointment to get my hands on one...to many right angles and not ergonomic enough...plus it was tooo light, chuck some cement powder or something in it! At least the stick on d-pad (as pictured) was an improvement over the raised pimples!

Yeah loved the comp pro pad (well it was based on a MD one!) i did actually use my MD pad for games that only used one button.

As this topic seems to have been totally derailed I will just quote myself to help get it back on track and answer the OP's original question for him

Jagfest_UK wrote:I see my knowledge is required!!!!

Anyway its probably best I split this into 2 catagories - common/affordable and rare/expensive.

Here is my top 10 games that are cheap and easy to get hold of:

Ultra Vortek - The best fighting game on the Jaguar by a distance this is pretty much a straight MK rip-off but has really nice graphics and sound, loads of great death moves, plays really fast and has a few secrets to find too!

Iron Soldier - Around the time the Jag came out these mech games were all the rage and this game is one of the best. Walk around a 3D world in a giant mech and blow sh!t up, what's not to like about that?

Doom - Yeah ok its on loads of other systems but the Jag version is the best of its generation and still the only console version of Doom to be programmed by teh creator of the game John Carmack himself!

Super Burnout - This game for me is the Jaguar's Outrun. One of the best racers on any console of its generation it has some amazing fast gameplay, great graphics, stunning music and even a 2-player mode!

Ruiner Pinball - If you like the Dragon's Fury games on the Megadrive and PC Engine then you will know what to expect here. 2 massive tables of fantasy styled pinball madness and it saves your high scores to the cart.

Raiden - For me this is the definative conversion of this game. Some rag on the big side bar but its there to keep the original arcade game's perspective correct. Great in 1 player this game is even better in 2.

Power Drive Rally - Despite having the same name this is more of a sequel to the Megadrive/SNES/PC game. Top down racing at its finest with tons of courses, great graphics and the ability to save your progress.

Tempest 2000 - I am sure I don't really need to say much about this game. Jeff Minter's classic is widely regarded as one of the best games ever and the Jag version is the original and definative version of these.

Missile Command 3D - The only released game that works with the abandoned VR helmet the 3D effect in VR mode is simply incredible even without it. My favourite Jag game and one that really shows what the system can do.

I-War - A bit like Cybermorph but in a tank this is probably the most under rated game on the system. Undoubtably influenced by the Tron films it has some lovely shaded 3D graphics and a techno sountrack.

Jagfest_UK wrote:And here are the 10 more expensive / rare games that are worth getting:

Zero 5 - Incredibly hard game that looks bloody incredible its mixes STUN Runner like sequences with 3D space shooting and works really well. If you like a challenge then this is the right game for you!

Skyhammer - Programmed by the same team as AVP this is another game that really shows what the Jag can do. Very reminicent of Blade Runner with its dark fully textured 3D worlds and futuristic theme.

Iron Soldier 2 - While the CD version is better and cheaper it is also available on cart and makes many improvements over the excellent original including better graphics and more varied missions too.

Protector: Special Edition - This Defender clone is not just better than the original its one of the best games on the Jag full stop. A real must have game that was most interesting programmed by Bethesda Softworks!

Worms - Another one of those games that seemed to appear on just about everything the Jag version seems to have more colours on screen than other versions and also lacks the annoying bugs that were in the PS1/Saturn game.

Total Carnage - A 100% arcade perfect conversion of the fantastic Midway arcade game that was released a few years back now by Songbird and still available on their website. You must have a pro-controller though in order to play the game properly, its nar impossible to play on the standard controller.

International Sensible Soccer - It might have appeared on just about every other console but the Jag version is more faithful to the ST/Amiga original (ie not stupidly easy!) and has the best computer AI of any version.

Atari Karts - If you love the Mario Kart games then this is a title you should own. A blatant rip-off that stars one Bentley Bear who was last seen in the old Atari arcade game Crystal Castles! Brilliant 2-player game too.

Alien Vs. Predator - One of the few Jag games that everyone seems to know everything about. Still the best game in the AVP series in my opinion it stands the test of time as one of few genuinely scary games out there.

Rayman - It may have also appeared on the PS1 and on the Saturn but the Jag version is the orginal one and also the best one. It features over twice as many colours on screen as both the other versions and a few gameplay differences.

 1)I can only be myself.

2) I do use PS3 web browser to post on here, despite owning perfectly good iPad 2-have proper keyboard hooked to PS3, with iPad, would take an age to type (Lot of people might see that as a good thing in my case).

3)Unlikely to meet good folks from here, not been to an event in years, living in middle of nowhere.

4)No offence taken, hope none caused by myself, not the intention etc.

I still think the Intellivision has just not the worst controller, but the worst thing in the observable universe.

I have a soft spot for the Jaguar and don't mind the controller after a while. I do feel we've travelled down this thread a few too many times before, in fact I think I'm repeating myself even now.
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure looks nice, controls are a little wooly though.

What annoying bugs were in the psx version of Worms? I played it a LOT and don't remember any.

EDIT: Or, by 'annoying bugs' did you mean the actual worms?

I played it recently for a comparison I was doing and both the Saturn and PS1 version feature these bugs:

Sometimes it dosn't let you rotate or change your girders.
Every now and again you get these rows of small wierd lines appear on the landscape.
Sometimes when you are in a cavern and you jump you appear on a different part of the screen.
When using the ninja rope your worm sometimes gets stuck to the landscape and all you can do is release it, often falling to your death.
Occasionally the computer players take what seems like an eternity to take their go and then just skip it.

None of these bugs seem to be in the Jag version, not sure why this is the case.

I've only noticed the last two. Never considered them bugs though, just the ninja rope being difficult to use, and the enemy cpu throwing itself on my sword after considering my overwhelming skill.

The Jaguar controller would look so much better if it didn't have that flippin' keypad thing. It's like a leftover from the Intellivision/Colecovision era and I can't understand why it was ever seen as an attractive or good idea on any of those consoles :?

Having said that, I've never actually held a Jag controller so I can't comment on how comfortable it is or how the buttons are etc.

Hopefully after some more clearing out to free up space, I can perhaps get hold of a Jaguar myself and try it out. I came close to buying one last year but pulled out at the last minute.

Jagfest quick question on the Jaguar Youtube channel they show Gorf on the 'Jag' and the comments say it has a offical release! Was this a official cartridge by Atari/Midway or whoever owns the rights for it these days, or a limited released Homebrew cart and how much woulkd I be looking at paying for it..

I've been promised a few brand new Jaguers and about 10 games and a boxed 2600 a few months back.. Friend of mine works in a shop that used to sell Atari consoles, but now only does sound systems, and he found the Atari consoles in the store room.. Long story short his Boss says he wants about £50 - £70 for a few boxed Jaguers a boxed Atari 2600 plus a load of boxed games games... Is this is a good price, (no idea what the games are) hopefully his Boss doesn't know about Ebay..

I remember seeing a Jag back in the day - it depressed me. All those digitised graphics and depressing colours. I had a SNES, a Megadrive and a PC Engine and it simply offered nothing better, in fact it looked a step backwards. It was around this time with the other weird in-between generation consoles (3DO and Cdi and all those) that I stopped caring about what was going on in the world of games and just stuck to what I had. There was something about this era of gaming that I just didn't like.

Anyhoo, years later I picked up an NTSC US Jaguar, with Tempest and Theme Park and maybe a couple of other games. I gave it a chance, figured an NTSC one would be better than a PAL system (dunno if this true) but I still hated it. I tried, but for me the Jaguar just has nothing to offer thats a 'must have' - I mean, is Super Burnout really a must-have game? I've played it, thought it sucked. Nothing against the console, I'm sure it can do a lot of great stuff, but the problem the way I see it is the developers mostly sucked - I assume with it being a US system the Japanese guys stayed well clear? (for example?) Oh and that Mortal Kombat rip-off looks quite frankly like a steaming pile of poo.

Not trolling, I tried with the Jaguar, just couldn't get on with it at all. I don't even think Tempest is the gods gift to shooters that people seem to think it is either, it's alright, but it's not that great.
