New Retro Gamer bookazine - 30th anniversary special

Postby knight_beat on Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:57 pm

A heads-up that a new Retro Gamer bookazine has appeared 'in the wild' (or WH Smith as it is better known. It doesn't appear to be on the Imagine web store yet). It's a 228-page '30th anniversary special' that reprints articles on the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. Sadly, it doesn't contain RG99's Spectrum Vs. Commodore face-off (I guess it's too new to be included), but there's a lot of interesting content in here for anyone who doesn't buy the magazine on a regular basis. I'm not a fan of magazines that force the reader to rotate it 180 degrees to read an article, but it's used intelligently here as a way to give each machine its own cover and the 'first' 114 pages of coverage.

Even though I'll have already bought the original mags, the emags & the re-prints in the bookazines I'll probably snap this up too.

Retro Gamer Magazine is the Stone Roses of mags, I don't know how many times I've bought the same album & songs re-packaged, re-mixed & re-mastered, but I'll keep on buying them as the content is so good.

Nice! Though would have liked two separate 256 page books as both machines would easily fill a volume.
How about a limited run of an Amstrad volume, Sir Sugar could write a foreword?

I wonder who decided to put the speccy on the front cover? Maybe they flipped a coin?

To help with the sales, I've turned all the covers over to the Commodore 64 so its front facing in WH Smith :D

Just to add I bought it yesterday and one of the ladies at work who has just turned 20 asked where do you put the CD's into the C64 and asked where the monitor was! Kids today eh!

It wasn't in my local Smiths last week, I'll have a look tomorrow. Nice to know I've got three articles in there ;)

I spotted a stack of these in the London Victoria WH Smith, figured I would head back today, and there was just one left, all dog eared and torn :( I asked the chap at the counter if they had anymore, and a guy brought some more down from the store room, so now have a mint fresh one straight out of the plastic, phew! I object to paying a tenner for something all torn up. I can see these selling out pretty fast, it says Vol 1, so are there to be more! SNES/MD perhaps! I wish RG would give some kind of advance heads up on these bookazines, once they sell out they cost a blomming fortune to track down and buy.
WANTED: Mario Party 3 on N64 (just the Box only) ANY SNES GAMES, OR EMPTY SNES BOXES, INSTRUCTION MANUALS or WHITE INNER TRAYS.
