Xbox XBMC question.

Postby MC1 on Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:16 pm

Hi all,

I've got a chipped PAL Xbox running XBMC and I've just been given a component cable.

I cant enable 480p, 720p or 1080i mode in the XBMC settings. Any ideas? I suspect I may need to put Xbox into NTSC mode, but I'm clueless about how to do this.

Any ideas/help?

Go into the Microsoft XBOX dashboard and enable the HDTV modes there..

I've never had to switch my XBOX over to NTSC... afaik the chip in mine switches to NTSC anyway... but if yours doesn't use Enigmah video switcher, just FTP it over to your XBOX, run it, switch to NTSC-M then go to the MS Dashboard and enable the HD modes

Edit: found a guide, ignore the softmod stuff in there tho: http://www.xbmc4xbox.org/wiki/index.php ... odded_Xbox

Thanks mate,

I'll try the Xbox dash first then try the other enigmah thing (sounds complicated though).

Bugger, video settings only show 'widescreen' and 'PAL-60' settings.

This is actually my sons Xbox, I know on my HD enabled Xbox it allows me to adjust HD settings on that screen. Looks like I'm going have to try the enigmah thing after all :(

Not complicated at all, you just run the program and select the video mode you want... the only complicated thing is getting it onto your XBOX, or you could just burn it to a disc and run it from there

The trick is fooling your XBox into thinking it's American. Put a baseball cap on it, squeeze a hot dog into pad port 4 and say 'have a nice day y'all!" each time you switch it off. If that doesn't work, try the enigmah thing. Whatever.

Well done, sir! Now, doesn't XBMC look so much better in 1080i? Apparently some games use higher resolutions too. Soul Calibre 2 and Tony Hawks 4 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance at 720p among them. Enjoy!

Yah, you can see the pixels even clearer now. ;) Unfortunately, most will never actually be able to see a vector game on an actual vector display.

Surely he should use XBMC @ 720p also?

1080i is horrible and interlaced. Eww.

They look a lot better than 480i what the PS2 version is lumped with though, and plus I don't have room or money for that matter for Major Havoc, Asteroids & Deluxe, Black Widow, Red Baron & etc.. arcade cabinets
