Aww why did they go and update Wrestlefest's graphics, they've killed the nostalgia.

Sounds like the scam version of Pokemon Yellow (Fantastic and addictive gameplay. Six stars." 5/5) is killing nostalgia too, how did Apple let it get this far?

I know what you mean, dont think they can win though, if its the 20 odd year old rom then people will moan its a con so they tend to update them. Same for Tapper, Don Bluth did the graphics for the revamped version but i know some people would prefer the original.

Apparently there were licensing issues as well, dont think Hulk Hogans in it, they cant just use the game from 20 odd years ago due to licensing problems so had to do some amends. From what i've read it doesnt seem that good either. Saying that its great theres a free 'lite' version so you may as well download it and see what you think (its out today)

As for Pokemon its amazing how it got that far in the Apple process, i'm sure people will get their money back as it does seem to be a scam as the game doesnt even seem to load.

Just saw a post from 'Eric' about all the issues of retro gamers being documented, saw a graphic in his signature about an iOS game and saw it and loved it ! Classic gameboy style game for iOS with a brilliant control system (obviously made to look like a GB)....

http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/gameguy/id502098637?mt=8

Video of it here...

Only 69p, its superb ! Made a post about it at toucharcade as well

Kinda cool in a quirky way I suppose. Can't say it holds much appeal beyond that though.

Wait a minute. There's a Tapper remake with Don Bluth graphics? Instabuy imo. Old gfx are great, but if you're going to have them redone Bluth isn't exactly a bad choice, is he.

Wonder if Oli's ever been approached for something like that?

Yeah its pretty good actually, only problem is because it has all these great graphics the filesize is pretty huge. But its worth checking out for sure and i'm positive you can get it pretty cheap.

Should be a few good games announced at 11am today

Two fun arcade puzzle games currently available for free which I'd recommend - Monkey Bongo and Push Panic. :D

Has anyone played Triple Town? A match-3 game where the playing field is a city you are trying to build up... very addictive.

Right a few great games have come out...

Gridrunner
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=123628

Jeff Minters old classic comes to iOS, great graphics, love the font/style so it looks like an 80's arcade Namco style game. Well worth the tiny 69p plus its universal/icade compatible

Neoteria
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=123639

Right these lot normally do great platformers, theyve given it a go doing a shoot em up, its great, 16 bit style graphics, the main different thing here is theres only up/down buttons, no left/right, its old skool so you have to tap the screen to shoot, again for the cheap price its well worth it

Midway Arcade
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=123442

LOVE this, yeah i've got iMame and a few of the games already but this is a beautiful little app, very well presented. Only 69p and you get 10 games included including some old skool arcade type games - Spy Hunter, Rampage, Joust, Root Beer Tapper, Defender, and Arch Rivals. Plus 4 Arcade favorites: Air Hockey, Arcade Basketball, Pool, and Roll Ball.

Then theres currently two game packs, 69p each but well worth it, you get...

Game Pack 1 includes:
- NARC
- Total Carnage
- APB

Game Pack 2 includes:
- Gauntlet
- Gauntlet II
- Wizard of Wor

LOVING this

Retro Racing
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=123441

From the maker of Qwak (Classic Amiga platformer) comes a micro machines type racing game, simple 16 bit graphics but the gameplay is brilliant.

Aemula Oldies
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=117817

Now this has been out before but its had an update with some new games. Its basically a DOS emulator, i say emulator you cant add games to it but it comes packaged with about 16 or so old skool classics. Has a PC dos version of Donkey Kong, plus two of the very very early Duke Nukem games when it was a platformer. Worth checking out, can use keyboard/joystick/gamepad controls, brings back memories of old PC DOS games

These ones are already out but just wanted to remind people....

Bullet Time
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=113519

Theyve recently added the final 3rd chapter, brilliant Mercs/Ikari Warriors style game, great graphics, a lot of weapons to get, theres IAP's for extra coins and stuff which you dont have to get (i completed the first chapter without any IAP's, loved it so much wanted to give something back to the devs so i bought an IAP), well worth checking out, i mean its free anyway to get.

DariusBurst SP
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=122119

Now this ones dear for iOS ((£7.99 !) but its exceptional, great port of the Playstation III game, plays very well, great graphics, well worth the expensive price tag

Dangerous
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=117572

I've been slowly getting into this, imagine a complex Elite or apparently its based on 'Eve' which was an online space game, huge huge world to explore/get into, also a ton of icons to learn and get used to, tons of potential though and one you'll be playing for ages once you get into it. I'm enjoying it but it took a while to really get into it i must admit

Hacker
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthrea ... ght=hacker

This one totally passed me by but i heard a review of it on a podcast and gave it a go. So glad i did, has mini games, has a great story that you've been sacked from your job in dodgy circumstances by the company, on your laptop it crashes and you access other files etc, goes from there. Mini games, lots of add-ons, has great depth to it, really enjoyable. Love the way it looks like a proper old PC from the 80's

Can I ask for a bit of off topic advice please guys?

I had my iPad as a gift for Christmas & I've just had an email from Apple offering me the Care Protection Plan for £69. I see that you get a 1 year limited warranty as standard & this 'extension' can be taken any time during the first year. Has anyone here bothered with this plan? Cheers. :D

Thanks for the heads-up, psj! :D

Of those I've now downloaded Gridrunner, Retro Racing and Aemula Oldies. The first two were a given purchase for me as mostly anything Llamasoft is pretty much guaranteed to rock on iOS and the top-down 2D racing genre is one I adore. I've just given them both a quick blast. Gridrunner seems as great as ever. The controls feel a bit strange but, in common with previous iOS releases from Llamasoft, once they 'click' the game will no doubt be superb to play. I had two races on Retro Racing and from that it seems yet another game in that sub-genre to chalk up as a must-have. Great stuff!

Not dabbled with Aemula Oldies yet but are looking forward to it.

The Hacker looks quite similar in nature to another iOS game I already have - The Heist, so I'll pass on it for now.

Midway Arcade - after reading so many scathing user feedback reviews which heavily criticised the poor controls and skipping frame rates in some of the featured emulated games I decided to pass.

I havent bothered with that, wont your ipad be covered under any of your home insurance etc ? Must admit the free one year warranty was perfect for me when i stupidly dropped my ipod touch after 2 weeks and smashed the screen, Apple just gave me a new one which was brilliant. How long does that plan for £69 last for ? A year ? Like i say if its covered already under your home insurance contents i've left mine like covered under that.

Well to be fair i've only played a few and havent seen any problems, i'm on an ipod 4 ios5 so unsure what those people have who left scathing reviews, i mean i saw one 'doesnt boot up, crashes after the intro screen' seemed ridiculous, i get that, have to reset my ipod and then it works, happens on a lot of games the first time.

One thing:

*NEVER* take those feedback reviews too seriously. People will OFTEN rate a game low and say nasty crap about it if it doesnt work for them 100% super duper perfect right from the start.

The Midway thing has a couple of bugs right now.... that's all. I wish more people would REALIZE that bugs happen, and will GET FIXED, but no, most of them will rate a game one star and never touch it again, because DERP.

If you want reviews, go somewhere like Toucharcade. I dont really trust anyone else to do it in a fair way.

Wait till the game gets a bug-fix update, and then see how it is. I already downloaded it myself. What I HAVE seen of it isnt bad at all. Tried out Joust, it sure.... plays like Joust.

"Bad controls" also are usually pure opinion.... some people just cant get the hang of touchscreens. Joust controlled quite fine, to me

I'd have tried it some more but have been playing Realm of the Mad God on Steam waaaayyyyyyyyy too much, so iOS is sitting on the side for a time.
