I feel like a lot of arcade stuff from the late 80's and 90s still look great. All of the CPS1-3 stuff still looks fantastic, I was actually just playing captain commando and still looks solid. And obviously you have third strike, which made my jaw drop the first time I saw it looks just as impressive today. The MVS stuff especially metal slug and mark of the wolves still just looks so good. NAOMI stuff like guilty gear looks just as awesome now as when it came out and likely always will.

And as ugly as a lot of saturn/ps1 era stuff is I do find them kind of charming. Especially model 2 games like virtua cop, daytona, virtua fighter. N64 games on the other hand, boy....not so much. Everything looks like it's smeared in Vaseline it's so blurry, and just in general look like butt. Nintendo made stuff still looks good but everything else god, not so much. Go back and play shadows of the empire and just bask in how down right crumby it looks.

I don’t know if you can bundle whole consoles together in this respect. Most systems have games that are still amazingly fun today, and some that are dreadful. I still get good amounts of fun out of the 2600, despite the graphical limitations, then again, there are some infuriatingly difficult titles that I can’t give the time of day too on that system too. Overall I’d say the 2600 has aged beautifully.

Probably the Mega CD and PS1 in terms of the graphics looking worse now than they did in the heyday. I remember being mesmerized by both of these systems when seeing them for the first time. The first time I played a PS1 at a friends house I actually felt cheeky for having a shot of what I considered to be a completely luxury machine. They do look a bit scrappy when played today, though.

i think the PS1 has aged fairly well myself. I still play a lot on it and aside from early titles like Nightmare Creatures which admittedly do look ropey, most of the games I have look fine. Just my opinion.

To be honest, I’m not really a graphic nazi in the slightest. I love the early 3D systems; I even think Sega Rally still looks beautiful on the Saturn today. The reason I mentioned the PS1 was probably because of how amazed I was at first sight, and I probably subconsciously compared it to the PS3, between which there is obviously a considerable distance, graphic wise. I still regularly dig out my PS1 wrestling / fighting / racing games and the graphics don’t affect my enjoyment of them at all.

Yep I know what you mean. Couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw a PS1 running back when it was released :D
