I saw this on BBC News and the comments where infurating.. Some Text speaking Chav saying whoever didn't buy the Sun on Sunday where Fascists  and that the several ex NOTW reporters made mistakes and should be given a second chance.. Hated NOTW don't really give a damn about Jordan or whichever celebrity scandal.. Last time I read it the front page was"The head of Anne Boleyns Ghost gave me a blow Job"

YouTube "recommendations".

If I watch say an AVGN vid I do not want there to be a recommendation for a heap of Irategamer stuff. Chris Bores is a barely literate tool who will block you if you so much as hint at his blatant plagiarism.

So now I have to delete my viewing history and guess what?

It comes back with trends like clips from The Only Way Is Essex. F*ck off!

It makes me laugh that everybody considers a huge justice has been done by shutting NOTW down but then another paper just takes its place, probably staffed by ex-NOTW employees anyway. Most papers are just exaggerations, lies, celeb info that we're supposed to 'care' about and garbage. The Sun is no different - worth a quick glance to see who's on page 3 but nothing more

Having said that, having a free press that can blow the cover of stuff like the expenses scandal is handy but then they take things too far with stuff like phone hacking and lose any credibility they have...in my eyes anyway.

In itself a largely misreported issue. It should really be renamed from 'phone hacking scandal' to 'celebs didn't bother changing their default passwords'. No hacking involved for the vast majority of cases.

It really doesn't bother me that some idiot celebs who couldn't be bothered to secure their phones properly got 'hacked' (for want of a better word) by Scum Of The World journos. It does bother me however when they hack into the likes of Milly Dowler's phone and potentially hamper the enquiry into a murdered child's death.

I think that was the real issue for most people. Not things like whether Jude Law left a message on his agent's mobile saying that he preferred to be called Susan at weekends or not.

But its not hacking. It misrepresents what has been done. Milly's phone wasn't hacked. It didn't need to be. That doesn't mean there's not an ethical issue, but as a representation of facts its misleading to suggest any hacking was done. They just checked the voicemail as it was unprotected. Anyone can do it.

Who leaves messages on an answer machine with personal information about medical procedures, affairs, boyfriends, etc? I don't see how you would get anything apart from, "It's me, I'll phone you back later. Bye", etc.

I know what you mean, the press however didnt have any right to hack/get access whatever to peoples voicemails no matter who they are, you cant defend that.

But yeah as to answerphones i normally leave just a few words saying 'its me, give me a call back etc....' , the mother in law leaves a dictated version of War and Peace, basically talks about everything she wants to talk to with her daughter anyway ! No point then having the phone call later !

People who assume that nobody would be such a lowlife scum to illegally trawl through people's private messages I guess.

People texting while driving down the motor-way at 80 miles an hour. I saw it so many times yesterday it was frightening. People don't seem bothered - even after we drove past a 3-car smash and had three ambulances speeding down the other flow. People must just think "it'll never happen to me".

So a journo still accessed somebody else's phone? Even if they know the password because it was left as the default, doesn't make it right does it? I'm not defending celebs because a lot of them irritate me but if had no security on my phone and somebody accessed my stuff, yeah it would be my fault that there was no protection but there's also the fact that somebody else is getting into my phone. There's no justification for doing that really.

It's like saying that robbing the contents of a house was fair game because the door was left open. Owner's fault but doesn't mean it was right for me to waltz inside and strip the joint.

If you left your door open, your insurance company wouldn't pay out.

Why is it different for celebs and their voicemail?

I'm not saying the newspapers and their contractors shouldn't be investigated for the immoral aspects of these cases, just that the people who's info was accessed invited it and don't warrant any sort of compensation.
