I'd like to elaborate on the point about structure I made in my last post.

The thing is that because the forum is split up into discrete areas, not only is it easy to find what you want, there's a far more significant advantage - namely that your thread won't disappear into the depths of page 2 and beyond if it's a minority subject, like it does here.

Opening up a thread about, say, the Atari 8-bits is always likely to be a bit of a niche topic, never likely to get anywhere near as much traffic as one of your Nintendo threads, to cite an obvious example. Here, a thread about the A8 will get maybe a bit of support from a few 8-bit diehards, but the reality is that if contributions die down for as little as a couple of days, the thread will slide down into page 2 and beyond and get forgotten. Then, some months later someone else'll come along and start another thread and you're back to square one really.

On RVG on the other hand, you can create the thread in the specialist Retro Computer area where it's likely to sit for quite some time. So, even if something's a niche subject, like the A8, the thread isn't going to be submerged as quickly as it would around here, which gives the thread much more likelihood of being contributed to by members slowly but surely over a course of months, rather than crashing and burning on here within days.

It is a forum really waiting for users to go and make something of it.

just giving this thread a nudge, Can't beleive you guys haven't joined up over here yet :!: what's the matter with ya's?..Joined a few days ago, and found it to be a lovely little retro gaming Haven, away for all the debates of trivial banter, I would highly recommend that you all sign up, this is a huge fruit tree ripe for the pickings of your retro gaming knowlendge and input, they have allot of plans for this site aswell, i know this sounds like a nudge promo, well it is :).. no, I think it has lots of protenial and has allot going for it so far. Highly recommend it.

just helping it get awareness

Who's poaching? I go there and I still come here. Nobody who is advocating signing up for RVG is suggesting not coming to RG, or coming to RG any less than they do now. It's just that it gives different options for discussion as a result of the layout and the more intense focus on retro-only topics.

I still think people should give it a chance all the same.

I still come on here every day and contribute and I am heavily involved in RVG. Like you say they are very different forums.

Its very hard to get a new community off the ground and maintain it with a solid userbase of significant size.

Having said that, I myself enjoy visiting and participating on the Defence Force forum and there's less than a dozen regular posters there.

Good to see that your prediction was very wrong! Place is buzzing! 8)

Certainly not trying to poach, Share maybe.. I dont advocate joining RVG and never return to RG. Infact all our members who are members here post on both and any other retro forums they frequent.

Thanks about the reviews, Jag has done 99.9% of them so far but we have some members writting others so keep your eyes peeled.
