Good work man. That's the score to beat now. I thought your first 1CC score was a little low to hold the top place. The best i've seen is about 850k for a one life clear. Not that not dying benefits you anyhow score wise, just power up wise.

I played 3 more credits this morning. First run I was on fire and in my mind was "ignore the extra ship" on Stage 4... yep you can guess what happened. Got to the final area in Stage 5 anyhow just had no speed at all and those attacks are fast.

Seems older shmups have a tendacy to punish you 'power up wise', on the final stage if you lose a life. Gunhed does a similar thing and i'm now stuck with both on the verge of 1CC's with the same predicament.

That was the problem I had. Dying meant I may as well restart because I'd have just try and dodge instead of being able to hit anything. That's why my first completion score was perhaps a bit low. I lost my power at the first stage 5 mini-boss then flew through the rest shooting at pretty much bugger all.

Ahhh, I'd figured someone was gonna one-life this game soon. Good work on that.

I still need to make a proper go at the game, buuuuuuuuuut.... too many other games holding my attention right now.

And I'm freaking determined to beat freaking Raystorm, so I'll likely stick with that for a bit longer before jumping onto this.

I keep making attempts at it, things keep going terribly wrong. Screw the second boss. With a fork. Brilliant game, but it can be soooooooooooooo frustrating.

First 2 credits today I didn't make it past Stage 2 without dying..
hmm.. anyway on my 3rd credit, I nearly reset after dying horribly in Stage 5, which made it a struggle but... i stuck with it, and...

Now that I've bagged my 3 points. I'll just play to try and better that 5th stage and and see if I can improve my score a little.

No miss up until the last section which to be fair I'd never played before. Room for improvement but having got the 1CC I think I'm done with this. There are some things about the game I like - the second halves of stages seem to be the best - but it has such a slow start and a single death from stage 4 up until most of stage 5 would be a run killer if I was going to improve my score. I may reassess this position when someone beats my score, though.

Are you able to open it up? I had similar issues with my pc engine pad. I cleaned the rubber pads inside and it's been fine ever since

Had a look, and you're absolutely right. Except now one of the shoulder buttons seems manky! Ah well, cheap piece of crap. Played the buggery out of this to try and get the waves for Stage 5 down, and hit a new tactic; 1-life it until inside the alien guts section, then mech-form Arrow Flash like a monster. Stage 3 has plenty of room for improvement for me, as I just hide out of the way in that diving section. Also, the gun parts on those battleships...yeah, think I got about half them. Crafty positioning of options in ship-form should let you cover above and below I reckon.

:D Now this is getting interesting.

I can No Miss the first 4 stages no problem without missing more than one or two enemies along the way, and now i've learnt to ignore that life ship in stage 4, it has made Stage 5 doable. Massive personal room for improvement in Stage 5 though. been winging really. I can clear the first section using the ship and not miss an enemy, the occasional nut job ships that suicide at you, get by me. There is a good amount of points to take home in Stage 5. i have seen a score of 856k on the net but would be interested to see if there's someone who has no missed every enemy and icon and maximised the score potential. If anyone comes across anything let us know. I may have a browse later.

I think i might have to play via emulation to get a save state on stage 5 for practicing. Working my way through the whole game to do this every time is going to get tedious. Once i'm happy then i'll return to my Mega Drive for the submission. I did play another credit after my all clear and i died as early as Stage 2.. worrying too much about taking out every enemy.

Anyway, glad we decided to drop the game time. It will be interesting how many other all clears get submitted. I can see this table being really tight overall this game round.

Oh quick question. Has anyone noticed that whilst in Arrow Flash mode with the mech that you don't receive the power ups or get the points for them? I keep meaning to keep an eye on the score counter. I know if you arrow flash the life ships in stage 4 and 5 you don't receive them. I didn't anyhow.

^ Not sure about 1-ups, now you mention it, but power-ups seem to get collected just fine. Had another try, and it seems I've got a pretty big margin of error. Got 805,840 :? It's the bloody battleships, easy to miss huge swathes of points there. Pretty much need to be and STAY tooled-up to get anything there. Which I didn't, meaning I was left driving like a space-granny at a painfully slow speed. Feh. FEH!

Looks like the scoring here is getting close.

......a bit too close. This is going to come down to pure memorization, isnt it? Not forgetting one damn enemy.

......yeah, I might just skip that. Every time I sit down to do a run on this as it is, I'm bored before the second stage and end up just playing Raystorm anyway.

Arrow Flash isnt bad, but.... ye gods, it is SO FREAKING SLOW. This makes Gradius 3 on the SNES look challenging. I may well end up not bothering with a score posting on this one out of sheer impatience.

And now, back to Raystorm.
