Big surprise to see issue 101 hit the doormat this morning... wasn't expecting it at all.

Anyway after last month, I just thought I'd post followup regarding the item condition. I'm happy to report that this was possibly the best condition subscriber copy I've ever received (last month being the worst).

The mystery of the clean cut incision (almost knife like) in the polythene mailer continues though. Same place, same length (1 - 1.5inches) again!!! Luckily this month it didn't catch and damage the actual magazine. Really would like to know what causes this and if anyone else has noticed such regular damage to the polythene mailer. 'Tis a puzzle!

I am a US reader of Retro Gamer, who has to repeatedly visit my local Barnes and Noble Bookseller at the beginning of every month to make sure I do not miss the latest issue of Retro Gamer, and that the issue I do purchase has not been mutilated by customers who treat the store as if it were a library. I have been collecting Retro Gamer since issue #72, and each issue from 72 through to 99 has a cover price of 9.99 USD. Issue 100+1 cost 14.99 USD. I assume this is because you were buying two complete issues at once. But to be sure that Retro Gamer's cover price is not increasing, could you please quell my fears and assure me that issue 101, when it arrives next month, will cost 9.99 USD?

Also, what advantages are there from a cost perspective from a subscription as opposed to continuing to purchasing the issues at the store, as they come out? According to the subscription section, you can save 25% off the cover price and pay £80.00 for a 13-issue US subscription. however, at today's exchange rate, this amounts to 9.84 USD per issue, when I believe the current price of an issue is 9.99 USD. Aside from convenience, there is not much of a cost advantage to subscribing.

I can confirm that the cover price on issue 101 is back to it's normal rate of $9.99. The subscription discount of 25% you refer to is actually the UK price discount rate and is not applicable for US subscriptions.

You are however correct that for US readers the subscription rate is £80 ($128 at todays exchange rate) making each issue $9.86. This rate does include all postage and shipping costs though and covers 13 issues. With a Retro Gamer subscription once you have subscribed you are protected against any future price rises for the duration of your contract term so for example the subscribers on issue 100 made additional savings for that issue compared to those shopping via the newsstand who paid the higher cover price.

Yay for delivery but boo for damages from Royal Mail... Has anyone else had issues with their delivery this month? My 2 subs deliveries (office and home) have arrived pristene so I'm keen to hear from anyone who is having postie problems elsewhere in the country.

Trashed again.

Just when I was on a good run of minimally damaged issues, RG issue 104 arrived today pretty much mauled by the Royal Mail (AGAIN). The bottom of the spine is a real mess. It has such heavy damage that it's 'concertinaed' and has actually broken the edge of the magazine binding (guts are hanging out). I've really no idea how they do it. I'd have to hit the spine numerous times (and HARD!!!!) with a hammer to replicate this. I'm starting to really dislike the Royal Mail.

Looks like I'll be Retro Gamer hunting with the masses in WHSmith come Monday!...

I guess subscribers got the latest issue of RG before it went on general sale this time I've been looking around Tesco and WHSmith for a replacement RG #104 for a couple of days... but alas, no sign of it (only RG #103).
