The frame rate itself doesn't seem to be massively better - better without a doubt, but not a huge increase. With McRae, the PSP version was unplayable not because of the frame rate, but because the controls felt completely unresponsive, sticky and both the nub and the d-pad just weren't fit for purpose. The Vita manages to change that completely, and the analogue stick feels perfect for the game. I'm hoping the same can be said for all PSP racing games - because as much as I love racing games on the PSP, the steering always felt wrong.

The only negative points I can see from the PSP games is obviously they look a bit rough on the Vita screen. Everything else seems spot on with how they play on the PSP if not better.

Obviously, that's only my experience - but I managed to finish my first stage in 1st, whereas on the PSP I never came higher than 4th. Totally different game for me.

Thank you for taking the time to deliver such a considered analysis, Space-turnip. I definitely share your appraisal of playing racing games on PSP as I too think it's a case of tolerating the limitations of the uncomfortable d-pad or deeply flawed analogue stick. Not a game breaker, more of an unnecessary irritation. So it's great to hear of how the PSV experience differs in positive ways with PSP games... especially so, as in your example, when it helps improve the controls to the extent the player can perform at a higher standard. :D

It was virtually unplayble on the PSP because it just controlled badly - on the vita it's still not perfect, but it's far smoother and feels much more like a McRae game should do. If this is what all PSP games feel like on the Vita, brilliant.

How much did it cost? And did it bother you having to buy it twice?

Edit: You bought it from psn in the first place didnt you

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max is another PSP game that works better on Vita due to its brilliant D-pad.

I maybe should have mentioned PSN
Although I do have a boxed copy as well. I'm not even sure why I downloaded it on the PSP before, I think i had some left over PSN funds and bought it when I didn't have a copy.
The game, as far as i remember, is now £7.99 though. Which is alright really (especially now the game can be controlled!)

Nah, I should have put 2 and 2 together sooner  . I was just asking because I still cant believe how the passport system has been dropped. Its a real shame.
£7.99 isnt bad tbf, but if I already had the UMD I would be expecting to pay far less via the passport system. It doesnt change the fact that I still want a Vita though.

Yep, passport system was one of the big reasons I was excited by the Vita. But, judging by the price for the larger memory cards anyway, I don't think it's a massive loss! It doesn't help that not everything on the PSN store has a file size indicator before you start downloading (unless I'm missing something?). My poor little 4gb memory card is already nearly full.

I wonder if that's why Phantasy Star Portable 2 went missing from the PSN store?

Thoroughly enjoying Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack at the moment. A real mix/feel of Katamari & LocoRoco.

Picked up Everybody's Golf today, very pleased with what I have seen so far, great pick up and play gameplay and the graphics are amazing, not too sure on some of the voice overs though.

Got Hustle Kings today, the tutorial was really 'fiddly' and got a bit annoyed with it. Lumines is finally starting to click and I'm enjoying it more. I can't get into Marvel vs Capcom 3, how can you use the Dpad without brushing the left analogue sick? How?!! Playing Motorsorm the most, what a brilliant little game... And for less than a fiver, more please!

Yea that last part of the tutorial on Hustle Kings is quite annoying, took me quite a few go's to pass it.

That game looks really fun to play. :D

Definitely one of the titles I'd be getting if I had a PSV but not necessarily tempting enough in itself to make me buy the console. Cynics may say the game looks like it could easily be replicated on smartphones/tablets, and that's probably true just from looking at it, but I'm guessing it really benefits from having 'proper' controls?

For me personally, I've tried this sort of game on my iPod touch & iPad & I just can't play them. I like to have buttons & a joystick/dpad, but of course others can quickly adapt to touch controls. It's why I stick to puzzle/word games on my iPad as that's all my fingers & brain can cope with!
