Not bloody likely :P

I just don't see the point in having the league on the forum if AmidstStorm's going recruit shoot em up specialists from elsewhere.

Ah that's a shame. Well i guess most of the DC shmups are available via MAME? I just fancied getting some play out of it.

Tried a few more credits on Arrow Flash. first credit 147k!
2nd credit. Mega Drive turned itself off.
I think it's a sign.
Game Over.

Theoretically, there is a DC emulator out there. I hear it works pretty well, and it wouldnt have the disadvantage of that godawful controller (is why I didnt like the console, haha)

And yes, if even your console there is getting tired of the game and passing out, that might indeed be a sign of having played it enough :P

It's no different than if those same people had all been registered at the forum beforehand, or had found it themselves. Not to mention that it just makes sense. If you went to, say.... I dunno, a tournament for some FPS.... you would sorta EXPECT there to be at least a couple of pro-level players there, yes? I think the same goes for this sort of thing.

Either way, it's not like it impacts your ability to play the games in question, and improve upon your own score.

Like that would ever happen, 6 posts and all in this thread :P

Right, but we could all do that anyway without the league, that's not really the point.

Oh well, at least I stuck with it as long as I could instead of crying about everything and not posting a single score like yourself :P

Fah.

Someone has to do all the complaining around here, see. Nobody else was quite up to task with that, so I took it upon myself to handle that aspect. I handle alot of the sarcasm, too.

Besides, aint my fault Parodius was absolutely awful and Arrow Flash was..... Arrow Flash. Hard to post a score for that one when I'm asleep at the keyboard, after all.

Moment we get a GOOD game here that doesnt make my sanity break, I'll jump right in. Though it does amaze me that out of so very dang many shmups, the first 2 happen to be 2 that I cant stand. USUALLY I'm fairly amiable about the genre, except when it comes to Touhou. Touhou, and most Konami and Treasure shmups, are the ones I wont do. And the 3 or so Cave games that I hate for whatever reason. I'll do most others. Arrow Flash was..... a surprise to me, really. I hadnt expected to find it BORING. I only very rarely see a shmup that's THAT ridiculously easy. I generally go into these expecting them to be very difficult. I mean, geez, that one's easier than Giga WIng. And that's saying something.

It coulda been R-Type or the Star Soldier series or a Psikyo game or Raizing or something like Galaga or maybe Raiden or all sorts of things..... but noooooooo, bloody PARODIUS.

Shoot em up specialist?

I try just as hard as the next guy, believe me
Thing is Arrow Flash was a comeback, and you'll all agree the game isn't hard by any stretch of the imagination

Quite true.

The next one might be more interesting. Or I hope so anyway. Something alot more challenging.

I still think Futari Ultra would be an entertaining choice.

Entertaining for me, anyway. Which is of course the point.

As long as it's pacey, I think is the key. Thinking of a Psikyo title for next nomination, providing I'm still in.

For the record I didn't join the forum just for league, I used to peruse it every now and then anyway, it was just that that spurred me into action.

Anyway I don't we should get too hung up about the league points. The league is about picking a game and playing it together, and while a bit of friendly competition makes it more interesting I think having players at different levels is probably more important, that way we can all learn from each other. We had that to an extent with Parodius and it was good to see everyone's progress. I liked the game anyway. With Arrow Flash it may just be a bit too easy for the amount of time we're playing but not to worry. Having different play times for different games is probably sensible.

The more the merrier I say, personally highscore competitions have always been primarily about challenging myself as well as having a contest. Couldn't give a $hit if I'm first or last as long as it's fun

Let's get this straight now and then be done because this is boring me and as with 90% of forum posts. Not strictly accurate.

Myself and Gmintyfresh started doing a friendly challenge one Sunday night as we couldn't get a co-op game going on DDP: Daifukkatsu. We started playing Ketsui and gave ourselves a month to get our best score against each other.. this is now just started it's 3rd month..

Anyhow.. people heard about it in the 360 import thread on this forum and thought it was a good idea and that we should do something similar on here:

So, I started the league thread.. had a load of interest, asked everyone to email people they thought might want to get involved. I personally emailed over 30 people. Mainly players on this forum who had already been posting in the shmup high score threads. A player called Smraedis (been on the forum longer than you) included, who recently did a 24hr 1CC back to back marathon. Other people on this forum who also reside on the shmups board too. Though they showed an early interest are probably out there chasing world records rather than taking on average gamer's from the forum right?

The only exceptions outside the forum were friends i've made on YouTube over the years that I extended the invitation to because I know of their passion about playing shmups.. doesn't make them any better than the average gamer all the same. When I say friends, these aren't just someone I've added to boost numbers. These are people I've been in contact with for a number of years, enough to call them friends, who i share my interests with.

kollisionBR tried signing up way back at the start of Parodius before you even got involved Vyothric, and being as he lives in Brazil, he seemed to have problems with his email account for some unknown reason.

Let me fill you in a bit on kollision's blog and why he writes it. I hope he doesn't mind..

Kol started his blog to help learn and better his English, being as he's from Brazil, this isn't obviously his first language. He's plays and damn near owns every shmup that exists on a home console, whether they are good or bad. He just loves the genre that much that he would suffer the pain to clear them all, but this isn't really relevant. His goal is just to clear them primarily and he then does a write up/short review for the reasons above. It really wouldn't matter what genre he did his reviews on, but his passion is shooting games. I don't think scoring is the main factor for him whereas someone like Misery (and trust me ive seen his videos, his Mushi skills alone scare me), plays the games for score and the clears are secondary, so opening an invite to kol, was infact taking him out of his normal comfort zone in a sense. Plus I really wanted to have him here as a friend.

I'm done on this subject, so if anyone else has an issue then now is the time to bring it up or at least PM me about it.

I'll happily move the league somewhere else if others feel the same. All i've ever done on this thread since the start is try to let everyone have their say and balance out the rules of play to try and make everyone happy and enjoy playing in the league. It was only ever about the fun of chasing others scores and the points add an extra element to it. So let's just get on with playing some games.

Oh and for the record. No one here already or who joins at a later date isn't welcome.. not by me anyhow.

"For the record", this post was to try and lighten the mood. Not that DigitalDuck noticed.

I don't know if you've read the many times I've complained about posts like that, but I'm going to do it once more:

Posting a sarcastic response that adds nothing to the discussion makes you look like a douche. It certainly gives me the impression that you're not intelligent enough to actually be capable of arguing your point.

If you don't like the league, you're free to leave. It's incredibly easy to ignore threads; simply don't click on them. This will never have to bother you again.

Alternatively, you can man up, accept that someone beat you (at least they didn't, say, swoop in IN THE LAST HOUR beating your score :x ) and get on with trying to beat them back.

Anyway, I've been very busy recently, but I'll be sure to post a score (and hopefully a video (I really mean it this time)) over the weekend.

Still bitter about that eh? At least I hadn't just joined when I did it. In fact, the only reason I did that was because you seemed to be purposely holding back your scores and not posting regular updates. But I'm sure you were very "busy" like you are now :P

Not particularly bitter about it, no. It just seemed relevant. And I'd be no more or less bitter if you'd just joined when you did it, because a game is a game. A league is a metagame, and regardless of whether the participants were on the forum before or not, they're on the forum now, and therefore eligible.

I posted one score in the first week, another score about halfway through, and another score a few days before the end. That seemed regular enough to me.

And yes, I've been quite busy, what with having two assignments due in today that I've spent the last fortnight working on. As much as I enjoy score tournaments, in times of a crisis, degree comes first, gaming to unwind comes second, sleep comes third, keeping up-to-date on forums comes fourth, and at that point I'm already at 42 hours a day. I'll probably not take part in next month's at all, because I'll then be drinking a constant stream of Red Bull and frantically trying to finish the 15000 word dissertation required for my Final Year Project.

But I'm sure this league is the most important thing in your life, so you'd obviously be worried about the origins of users.

One person is only one line in the table.
Why such a turmoil for a score that can be beaten by any of the top 5 competitors at any moment?
I honestly think anyone who's 1CCed can get more than 850K.

Take all items - speed-ups, power-ups, all of them, accept everything the game gives you - each one is worth 1.000 points (max speed isn't that hard to handle, unlike Truxton). Save arrow flash stock for the last stage and swoop all turrets from the opposite side of the spaceships for more points. Try not to let anything escape: the first level is quite boring but it's also a challenge in itself to memorize it and get a 100% personal destruction rate (which I didn't try myself).

Arrow Flash might be many things, but at least it allows for everybody to get a 1CC and stay very close to each other at the top.
I'm sure this won't happen again so soon!
still 5 days to go yay
