thevulture wrote:'Retro gaming specialist Blaze has told MCV its planned £500 price tag for the NeoGeo X is accurate, contrary to other reports circulating online.

Games news website Eurogamer posted a story suggesting the £500 price tag is innacurate. It also said a Blaze spokesperson confirmed this.

However, Blaze has told MCV that the £500 price is on the cards but the company is keeping an open mind to a potential price drop.

This £500 figure is based on a conversation MCV had with Blaze today (Thursday, March 15th). It is not based on a 'month-old forum post', which Eurogamer claimed.'

 All this is missing is some pre-PS3 launch type claims about it being like an expensive meal, being sold for too little and people needing to work harder to afford 1.We sure Sony are'nt involved in any way?

I have contacts at Blaze, we are running a competition for them on the forum so I could just ask them.

Reliable source with a press release aswell: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/the-n ... ide-in-q2/

The spokesperson for Blaze says "We hope to re-ignite the excitement many of us felt twenty one years ago, in a more affordable manner, to a much wider audience." I can only assume that means the £500 price point is highly unlikely if its supposed to be affordable. I think theyd be pushed for sales at even £100 unless it does more than just play some odd games on the go.
I asked for orange. It gave me lemon lime!

Holy **** journos are getting lazier and crapper at researching stories, if they're not taking stories off twitters without checking them out first they're doing things like this! Seriously, how bad is that?!
500 quid was so obviously and screamingly wrong it's hysterically funny. Who in their right mind would pay 500 smackers with the other handheld options? You would have to be the biggest neo geo fan...and certified insane

Maybe if it was gold plated and hand signed and came with every NeoGeo game ever made, id still have to say no!

 I should have read further before my last post! THIS IS TRUE?! They're ****ing nuts- so are the three people that buy them.
Even going to triple figures I would've pondered for a while...99 pounds would've been a realistic price point and yes I would have most likely bought one.
500 pounds?! As in, once I convert it would be around ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS NZ??!!!!!
Two words for them, and the last one's 'off.' An old hacked PSP will be fine...

I'm not condoning piracy in any way but this is exactly the sort of thing that would push people towards it - why spend £500 on this when you can pay £30 for a used PSP and download it all for free?

Is the device touch screen? Does it have multimedia capabilities (music, video, browser etc)? That's the only way I can see them justifying the hefty price tag. How do they expect it to sell? Surely only the enthusiasts would be happy to pay that price and even then the fact it is just emulation and roms would probably drive them away anyway.

So Jagfest, since you've people 'in the know', can you get some sense out of them and get a vague idea of just where the price is likely to clock in at?.

They say there's no such thing as bad P.R and this price story def.getting the device some attention, maybe that was the aim all along?.

Quote from Blaze themselves:

"It's not £500, MCV's figure was based on a month's old forum post from a community member declaring what he'd be willing to pay for the device. It would be insane for us to attempt to sell it at that price point. I cannot confirm what the actual price will be until we know what our US partner will be selling the device for, an official announcement will be made very soon."

I saw that quote too ( http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012- ... tag-mooted ). :)

Congratulations Jagfest_UK for once more clouding the typically misinformed debate on this forum with facts.

This as well...
But I will have to reserve judgement, IMO there is just no way this can be correct. It is just too crazy. I will take Jags word having dealt with em personally that 500 smackers is BS...but the sooner they confirm an official price, at least a ballpark one, the better.

Fair enough...it sounds bollocks. But until an official price is confirmed it is the only figure going around...True or not 500 quid is effin bollocks
