Super Nintendo collecting thread.

I tried booting my SNES up yesterday - it still works. Trouble is, I cannot find the official power adaptor or controllers, so I'm using an external HDD power adaptor.

The adaptor chucks out 12v; the SNES only requires 9v, IIRC. Presumably I risk damaging the console if I continue using the set up I have?

You should be ok for the short term, IIRC the SNES has a 5V internal regulator, probably a standard 7805 so it can handle upto 20V+ input. Although it depends what else is on the supply line.

But as Liam said it would be better to have a multi adaptor, which could be used on other consoles as well.

I'm using a Megadrive adaptar on my Super Famicom (Famicom has has higher voltage than snes) when I tried the offical snes power supply picture jumps and looks washed out.. I was told using the official snes adaptar on the Super Famicom would damage it I'd imagine same with the snes.. Argus does a multi adaptar

I've ordered one of those cheap SNES pad reproductions from Amazon for now (the reviews are generally favourable) to tide me over until I discover where my controllers are (and the rest of my games!)

Of the games I did find, I'm especially looking forward to playing Super Aleste again.

Wow! Reading through some of the posts on here I can see that buying for the SNES really has gotten a lot more expensive than when I first started doing it....I was looking to buy back Super Metroid Big Box and Super Ghouls n Ghosts, but some of those prices are shocking!

I sold Super Metroid for about £18 5 years ago on Ebay....and now I see it going for £100 plus!

Can't say I've really scanned ebay that much for snes stuff over the past year, I still like to pick games as and when I see them privately and when they are a couple of quid, I am just thankful I bought most of the A games 10 years ago when I started collecting. Certain stuff like Final Fight 3, Vampires Kiss, Street Fighter Alpha 2 I am a bit gutted I sold at some point to pay bills. I am slowly going for a full UK maybe US set of games (within no set time frame!), upto just under 300 games so far.

I found a shop locally that is selling retro games, whilst they have crazy priced things like a loose gameboy colour for £20?! I did spot they had a Zelda loose cart for the Snes for £15, not sure what the going rate is for that these days should anyone be particularly after it. They also had a Life & Death of Superman cart, is that a rare one?

You can still pick up the odd bargain on eBay, especially if you're willing to go for cart only. Saying that, it takes a lot of patience. There are loads of BIN auctions with silly prices. The thing that gets me is it is always the same censored. How MEGA RARE is Zelda 3 anyway? Judging by eBay, not very!

Mind you, I only look for NTSC carts, so maybe the PAL market is worse?

I am half heartedly working my way towards a full set of games (UK/USA) although not really too fussed about the region. God knows how many games there were. I was including Japan games, until someone on here pointed out just how many there were, so put that thought out of my mind Quite please though as approx 150 I have are boxed.

I love looking through lists like that because they often remind me of games I'd forgetten existed, games I've got myself that I forgot I had or games I wouldn't mind getting hold of.

Haven't had my SNES out in a while but I'll probably set it up over the next week as I've just bought a copy of Buster Busts Loose off Guybrush and I'll have a whizz through it, see if I've still got what it takes to get through 'Hard' level on one life (probably not ) I'll probably keep it out for a while and have another run through of Turtles in Time too, whilst I'm at it when my mate comes over to watch Wrestlemania in a couple of weeks.
