What games (if any) would you say are perfect?

Postby GarryG on Sun Mar 18, 2012 12:10 am

The title says it all. It could be a new game you think will never be beaten, or older games that you thing were the dest they could possibly be, in context of when they were made.

Mine would be Pong, Space Invaders, and Elite. Without the last one games may never have taken on the shape thay have today, and without the first two there may never have been a games industry at all, as we know it!

So what do you think?

I dont think you can have a perfect game tbh. And theres so many almost perfects I couldnt possibly go into any detail. Off the top of my head Demons and Dark Souls are 2 examples of how a rpg should be made.

Somewhat agreed. My favourite game isn't perfect, therefore no game is.

I would like to imagine that it IS possible to have a perfect game, though, if only for the sake of my creative visions and ideal career path.

I suppose the Gameboy version of Tetris would just about be as close to perfection as you could get.

Im not entirely sure what criteria you use to measure perfection. How can you? Perfection is different in everyones eyes.

Simple games are often suggested because its hard to find flaws in basic games like Pac Man or Tetris. But you can always argue they are repetitive, lack variety or story. Not that it needs one but if you were to measure an RPG using the same criteria, those elements would obviously be important.

Ocarina of Time would be my choice at any rate. I cant think of anything i would change about it but im sure others will disagree.

Yeah, a perfect game does not exist- there's always ways a game can improve, and you also have to take personal taste into account. Like in the 'Issue 100' feedback topic where there was a debate as to whether you can have a 'perfect issue' that is perfect for everyone- you can't due to everyone's taste being different.
You can only have top quality examples of games in their genre. I define a game by how much I keep playing it- one of those games you'll play until the early hours.
For me, examples were FF7, Goldeneye, RE2, Silent Hill 1&2, Doom, (Original) Tomb Raider.

But the DS version is much better.

I'd say Pokémon Yellow.
Dreamcast (HKT-3030), PlayStation (SCPH-5552), PlayStation 2 (SCPH-39003), Sega Saturn (MK-80200-50), PC Engine Core Grafx II, AV Famicom, Neo Geo AES

Except for the 7800 NTSC version. That really was an impossible mission.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask spring to mind.

Their only niggles are probably the Water Temple in Ocrain of Time being a little too over frustrating, and that if you collect all the Masks in Majora's Mask it makes the final boss a bit too easy.

Super Castlevania IV
Shenmue
Crazy Taxi D

Sonic 2

So is Tetris The Absolute The Grand Master 2/PLUS a better game than both Tetris The Grand Master 3 -Terror Instinct- and Tetris The Grand Master 4 The Masters of Round then?
