There's been some pestering from board users over at RSG for them to consider looking at Under Defeat HD, whether they'll listen is another thing but it can't hurt to add a few more voices.

There's one *really* baffling thing about Touhou in general that always just.....BOTHERS me.

There are actually fans of Touhou.... I say again, "Fans of Touhou", who DO NOT KNOW WHAT TYPE OF GAMES THEY ARE.

I'm fairly certain the mere existence of this fact breaks holes in reality, simply because it's so bloody stupid.

There are a huge number of people who get into Touhou simply because they're into loli, and that series is FULL of them. I like loli/shota myself, but.... good grief. At least play the bloody games if you're gonna get absorbed into it! I had a friend who is into it actually ask me that, "What type of games are they?". I threw something or other at him in response. Probably a controller, they're always good for throwing.

Not a fan of the art myself, but that's just me. I read alot of manga and am very picky about art.

Mostly though, I just.... ehhh.... not all that fond of the gameplay in them. They're not BAD, mind you.... they're decent enough.... but still, I can never really get into the series much. One thing that always does bother me is how tiny the bosses are. I'm sorry, fighting a.... rather small girl with a tiny sprite is, well, it doesnt match up to fighting GIANT BLAZING SPIDERS or huge freaking battleships or whatever the hell that thing Larsa rides in Futari is.

As for Under Defeat, still waiting on notification of my own copy being sent out. Play-Asia said it'd be within a week..... and it bloody well better be. I could use a new shmup to play, and I've heard alot of good about that one. It's also nice to have options that are NOT Cave games, much as I like them.

Got the 360 version of Under Defeat HD a few days ago, and with a bit of messing around managed to get it fullscreen tate on my CRT. My progress in this game is very slow so far, the best I can do is no miss 1-1 and 1-2 and then get spanked on 1-3. That's a bit shameful, hopefully I can improve a bit.

^ Start a thread in the High Scores section, it's a good way to get tips. And if you like shmups, join the forum league while you're at it.

It's a weird situation, where it seems many fans have taken the characters and story and just ran with it, gaming roots be damned. Honestly surprised ZUN hasn't made more of an effort to capitalise on that, and milk (play on words intended) that cow until it drops!

Anyway, I'm choosing to be optimistic and have my fingers crossed UDHD will get here one way or another...

Just be careful doing it like that.

I'm told that those TVs die faster when used that way.

....though I of course totally understand WHY you want to do it.

Arent there flatscreens/monitors out there that can be rotated to do that? I could SWEAR I'd seen some before at the Fry's near here, but I havent found any since.... I'd buy one up right away if I found such a thing. Having a tate-able screen, and thus the game using the ENTIRE screen instead of just part of it, would be easier on the eyes cause it'd be bigger as a result. It's also just cool of course.

EDIT: Gaaaahh, you lucky snot, you've got a Futari stick! I wanted one of those, but..... poof! They were gone too fast. A bit pricey too.

On another note, STILL waiting on that damn game (Under Defeat) to be sent out. Getting a little worrisome, actually. I ordered it.... last Tuesday I think?

I think considering nearly every 360 shmup ive tried this morning allows for easy screen rotation, i'll probably keep in permanently like this. Not fussed if it dies.. it was free and just a spare on the other side of my room.

The only other games ive tried are on the DC.. Gunbird 2 looks good, but sad that Mars Matrix and both the Gigawing's aren't tate-able.. real shame.

Have to say i kinda prefer the 360 shmups non HD, especially Daifukkatsu which i think looks awful on my HDTV.. too damn bright.

Where did you order UD from Misery?

Sticking CRT TVs on their side isn't great for them I think, especially the ones that go a strange colour when you do (there's a trick to get them to play in colour - which I'm sure you know how to do) but tbh I've never had one go yet. Got quite a few CRTs stockpiled myself so I'll just chuck them out as they break. I'm really not bothered about playing shmups on a regular TATED LED TV myself and the CRTs I've got are for those light gun games that don't work on modern TVs. I recently aquired an amazing 50" Panasonic CRT that's almost brand new for the price of picking up a new universal remote control recently, Confidential Mission is going to look ace.

If you ordered from PA they generally take at least a week

Aye, twas Play-Asia I ordered it from.

Every other time I've ordered a game from them it's been sent out the following morning, unless I do it on a weekend.

This time though, not the case.

I got a 28" 4:3 CRTfor a quid a while ago. It's currently hooked up to my PS2 and DC. Only slight problem is that the RGB image is shifted up slighty so you don't always get a full image. Fortunately Psyvariar looks great on it. Well, as great as it can look anyway.

The only reason they go funny is because of magnetism.

If you leave it off for a while and unplugged, rotate it and turn it on then the image will be perfectly fine.
Dreamcast (HKT-3030), PlayStation (SCPH-5552), PlayStation 2 (SCPH-39003), Sega Saturn (MK-80200-50), PC Engine Core Grafx II, AV Famicom, Neo Geo AES

Hell I know this is the import thread but there's a hell of a lot of shmup talk on here so I'll ask this question of you all for fun:

What shmup past or present would you love to see get a physical 360 release and makeover?

Hmm, Harmful Park.

Find it easy though.

Would enjoy Axelay, Gradius V, Zero Gunner 2

they're all in my opinion great shooters, infact some of the best.
