Who's getting sick of waiting for Half Life 3?

Postby crusto on Tue Mar 20, 2012 2:25 am

For me its getting to be a such a nause that when it does eventually surface I probably wont enjoy it. HL 2 and its episodes were superb imo and completely eclipse the likes of Cod, Halo, Fear etc etc in terms of a single player experience. Brilliant games, and yet we have to wait for what seems like an age just for announcement of the next installment. I know CoD is a juggernaut right now, and its games come thick and fast but come on ffs!

Valve, will you please hurry the f*ck up.

Edit: and while were on the subject, being as HL 2 came out in '04 and 'what is retro?' is being discussed again. Would you class it as retro? Personally I would most definitely not. As im of the opinion its still as good as, if not better than what is being churned out atm. And still looks pretty good too.

You have to remember...this same sort of thing was said in the run up to HL2. "It'll never happen" "the game won't live up to the hype" "No announcements mean it isnt coming" etc

Now I dunno about you, but I think the wait was worth it for HL2 ;)

(I do agree though, the lack of announcements is annoying, and it feels like an age. But if HL games were churned out every year like other FPS's...well, it just wouldnt be Half Life would it?)

Note: Crusto, if you remove this thread again like you did a minute ago, and I have to write this reply again, I may go insane :P )

I can't say I've given HL3 a second thought. I've plenty of games to play so I'm never looking for sequels. I only played the HL2 Episodes last year.

My worry is finding time to play all the games already out that I want to try.

Like has previously been said, I haven't thought about it too much, however I loved both HL and HL2, so another installment would be welcome. I suspect it would need a new graphics engine, as HL2 does look quite dated now.

I'd also like HL to be given an HD make over and put on XBLA . . . it won't run on my PC now, so a chance to replay it would be most welcome and would be a much better experience that Jet Set Radio, etc.

Agree crusto- the HL2 games were some of the best and immersive I've played. I may actually play them through again sometime.

I just pray Episode 3 comes out sometime- however long!

No, because until I read your post, I didn't even know it was (maybe) coming out!

Like most people I've kind of become desensitised to it all now. A few years back I was massively craving HL3, especially when rumours began to circulate that it would incorporate the Portal Gun, but now I hardly think about it.

Still, I'd rather they took their time to release a fine, polished game. Too many games are rushed these days, as we all know. A HD remake of the first game would be a nice way to whet the appetite; there was some community project that was rebuilding the game with the Source engine, but I haven't checked up on it for a while.

Half Life 2 Retro? No.

Wait for Half Life 3, i'd rather it arrived when it was ready, rather than say OMG we're launching a new platform, we need to sign it up as a launch exclusive and then bung out shoddy port to other systems type affair.

Different game, but recent exp.of Mass Effect 3 has shaped my view here somewhat:fantastic game, but all the talk of the individual actions you made across all 3 games would result in game shaped around those actions.....well no spoilers, but come the ending....

I'd want the events of HL, HL2, Eps 1+Eps 2 to have some meaning, i also hope Valve don't include sections which just don't work, as they'd been influenced by games they'd been playing during development (1st Half Life platforming sections, as they'd been playing Super Mario etc).

Wouldn't say I am sick of waiting for HL3, just glad they are taking there time and not releasing a game just for the sake of it. I will be happy if the quality of the story matches what has come before it in HL 1 + 2, and the gameplay offers something innovative and different to separate it from the rest of the market, too many games have come out that just feel the same as others, for example Rage.

Let's hope there's a recap at the start of it. Mind you, that final scene is hard to forget.

I'm not sure I knew a HL3 was being made. I thought it was Episode 3 we were waiting for?

Are both being made in parallel?
