Mastertronic Chronicles - New Blog and Youtube Series

Postby witchfinder on Wed Mar 21, 2012 10:18 am

My new blog documents my attempts to collect a set of Mastertronic budget games for the Commodore 64.

http://mastertronic64.blogspot.co.uk

The blog came about because I was looking to build an interesting collection of games at a relatively low price, one that wouldn't take up too much room and would look cool on a shelf (or two) in my games room.

Going for a full set of games covering all systems would be hard work, so I'm focussed on the Commodore 64 releases. I’ve decided to only collect the games that specifically mention the name Mastertronic on the cover, as the company had a number of imprint labels to re-release games from the likes of U.S. Gold and Hewson. Excluding these, there are still over 200 games for the C64 according to the list I’ve compiled.

To make things a bit more interesting I've decided that as I accumulate the games I will try to maintain an average game price of no more than £1.99

Each game will be reviewed on the YouTube channel to see if it was worth the asking price back in the day. There are already a number of reviews up on the site so please check it out and feel free to share your own memories of Mastertronic games!

Will you be keeping a list of what's in the collection in one of the posts there?

I've to dig some suitcases from the loft tonight, I'll have a look and see if I've any for you. Don't think I've much, most of my Mastertronic stuff was on Speccy iirc.

P.O.D. is I think the highlight of the early collection you have. Love that game, I have fond memories of it bitd and its still fun to throw on now and then.

Well I do an update every time I get new stuff and tag it 'collection update' so if you filter on that tage you would get my collection thus far, but I may well start a thread in Off Topic here listing what I'm after as well...

Two more bundles have arrived this week which take the count to nearly 100 games already by the way! :D

If you end up with any unwanted C64 games amongst the joblots you're buying, let me know as there may be stuff I'm interested in! :)

I've just been through what I can find of my C64 games and turned up the following for you:

Speed King (Mastertronic). One of the early titles I believe. A little scruffy thanks to the kid round the corner I loaned it to.

Starforce Nova (Mastertronic). Uridium clone.

Tetris (Mastertronic Plus).Self explanatory. I really like this version.

Hacker (Ricochet). Rerelease of the old Activision game.

Knuckle Busters. Ropey game, a mate already had it, I just bought it for the Hubbard soundtrack.

Drop me a PM with your address and I'll chuck them in the post tomorrow.

Enjoyed the GPS vid. You should have gone to 10 laps though to see if the race ended!

From what I've read, I don't think it does. The problem is the longer you play it, the easier it gets, so you could be there all day! Good value for money though...

I'm using Firefox (latest version) and have had this problem for ages....

When I click on witchfinders link, I don't get any videos or pics. I've updated all the addons etc but still nothing. :? :? :? any ideas?
