If it's the same Jared and co from Screwattack then I've listened to them do their hour-long gaming podcasts and yes, they do talk a lot of censored from time to time. My guess is they just leave the mics recording and chat any old rubbish while playing. "Guytalk."

Should they be held responsible for the guy-bolloks they spout? Should WE be held responsible for all the drivel we spout while playing games? Are they to be held for everything they say and do, whilst it's public?

I don't watch those vids now, simply because I don't like that level of inane banter. It's one of the reasons I steer clear of any Talk-Radio too, as they all seem to suffer from the same mundane levels of speaker-ignorance and ill-considered comments.

They should (the ones in the article), yes, because they're not only doing this in a very public setting, they're doing it on this "show" that Capcom was producing to promote their game.... that's something that's gonna be seen by WAY more people than most events.

I mean, it's one thing to have some banter among friends at a casual get-together. But even then.... MOST people wont even think of saying some of the crap that that guy did, even in THAT setting. Even in public settings, it nearly never gets nasty like that. You'll get some randomized swearwords, and various forms of light banter (of the "Hah, I'm gonna kick your ass!" type), but.... the stuff that guy spouted? It surprised even me, and I've heard *alot* of crap from that community. He went way, way too far.

But it's not just him, it's that community. There are those within it that, like him, will believe all the same stuff he clearly does. It really is a pretty nasty place (if you can call it a place).

Even the shmups.com forums, or the Minecraft forums, are happy, rainbow filled wonderlands compared with the blazing hellhole that is the fighting community.

I really don't think he meant explicitly sexual harassment, i think he just meant plain old harassment and he just spoke very very poorly. And if he meant just regular harassment then he's right it has historically been a very large part of the community, for better or worse that has been the case.

I have found this to not be the case, and if you get out there and talk to the community feel like most would find that to be the case as well. I don't mean the internet community I mean the IRL one. Most large internet communities are terrible, fighting games or games in general is no different. Neogaf is terrifying not because of video games, but due to the number of terrifying people on it. Event hubs or srk are the same way. It doesn't mean everyone who likes video games is like your average neogaf user, likewise for the fighting game community.

I've found it to be the case in person, unfortunately. .....many times. It got to the point where it was actually pretty rare that I'd meet someone firmly entrenched in that community who WASNT a jackass. There's exceptions of course, but.... let's just say I've not had good relations with these people. Part of it could be the area, or just bad luck, but regardless, that's how it's happened so far.

But even just compared to other Net communities.... I mean, yeah, the Net is filled with jerks, I'm aware of that.... but that group takes it to a level that others very rarely do. That guy's comments may have been a bit wacko.... but his ATTITUDE is one I've seen way, WAY too many times (online OR in-person). And the way they tend to treat new players, that in particular pisses me off. That bit about "harassment" in general is sorta what I mean. I dont see that in any other community to the sheer level that the idiots in the fighting one take it. New players being TOTALLY put offa the entire genre because of that is pretty common, and that's the main aspect that ends up getting me infuriated when I see it.

For the most part, even though I play fighting games ALOT, I just stay the hell away from those sites, because they make me wanna smash something. They have nothing I really need anyway, so that works out well enough.

Only gaming community I can think of that is supposedly worse is the.... er..... what the hell do you call it.... DOTA-style games..... the community for any of those. I've not played those (and I dont intend to), so Ive not seen it for myself, but.... based on the stories, I dont WANT to see it for myself either.

The moba and fighting game communities seem pretty typical to me in terms of groups for competitive games, I'm sorry to hear your experiences with the fgc has been so poor. But what competitive gaming community do you frequent that are all polite and hospitable? I've had some experience with all of them and they all seem pretty much the same. They all pick on scrubs and new players, and if anything most fighting game websites are designed for new people and seem pretty effective at fostering interest.

There's hardly anyone I know of that's a horrible person in the fighting game community. All polite and understanding.

Giving a handshake to someone who you've just beaten/lost to in a game always feels good.

Net communities are pretty crappy though, yeah.

Neo Empire is pretty fantastic though. SRK not so much.

Hehe, I dont bother with most forms of competetive games. Fighting games I do a ton, sure, but.... there isnt a whole lot else OUT there that isnt A: an FPS, or B: Starcraft.

Nothing wrong with Starcraft, particularly the second one, but for the time being, I'm currently physically unable to dive into that game because I cannot use the mouse to the extent that it wants me to. Not unless I want my arm to feel like I just dipped it in napalm.

Other games..... too many FPS's, and too many "team-based" games. And too many team-based FPS's. I'm not much of a team player, for the simple reason that I prefer to just do everything myself. And the FPS genre is a cure for insomnia.

I'm not saying that competetive groups are POLITE, good grief no. Alot of of them are like that to an extent. I dont do Starcraft right now, but I know someone that DOES, is very into it, and he's always got stories about THAT group. I'm just saying that the fighting community often (very often) seems abrasive and nasty even in comparison to other competetive communities. As such, I usually just dont bother trying to interact with any of them anymore. Saves me alot of headache.
