Which is the better film - Robocop or The Terminator?

I think a lot of people consider Robocop to be inferior to The Terminator because of its over-the-top violence and comedic aspects. Over the years though, I've come to realise that Robocop is an infinitely better film. If you think about it, The Terminator is pretty much just a movie about a robot chasing a woman, whereas Robocop has a lot more themes we can relate to personally. It also has many more interesting characters like Clarence Boddicker, Dick Jones, Bob Morton, Murphy, and Lewis. In The Terminator, there's just Sarah Conner and Kyle Reese (and I don't think either of them are as interesting as the characters in Robocop, but that's just my preference).

I also think that people view them more as series rather than stand alone films, and if you looked at The Terminator and T2, and compared it with Robocop 1, 2, and 3, obviously the former is going to come out on top, overall. But since we've had Terminator 3 farted out at us, and the hit-and-miss Salvation, I think the playing field has been levelled somewhat.

Which movie do you prefer?

Either way is most excellent, but only the first Robocop is worth a damn. The second is slightly ropey the third just awful.

I think I woulod go Terminator if someone put a gun to my head.

I like them both a lot, but The Terminator is just amazing. It's probably my second favourite film ever after Aliens.

The second one is just as good as the first but in a different way, the Kane robot is a scary f*cker and there's a proper monster mash, brilliant.

The Terminator. Good as Robocop is - and I suppose you have to appreciate the satire in the film, Terminator is a bleak, unrelenting sci fi story. Especially good, if you don't know a unique bit about the storyline in the film. The sequels are good, but the original does edge it in storyline terms.

Terminator is a great action film, Robocop is a satirical look at future America and the growth of capitalism at the expense of its citizens - as well as being a great action film.

Tbh I much prefer T2 to Terminator anyway.

really? i like t2 i really do, but on some level it just irritates me. Sarah connor is so annoying in the film, the whole butch "fire in the hole" character doesnt gel with me.

The kid is amazingly irritating and the "I will not kill anyone" part is dullsville.

The T1000 saves it for me but looking at it now the effects are very dates and not even that thrills me any more.
