Could bag your 3 points then go back for purely score runs? Thats how I approached arrow flash. At a guess a first loop clear will be around 1-1.2 million, so wouldn't necessarily be easy to beat that score anyhow without an all clear.

Hmm, that's a good point, I might try and do that.

Not yet though. My arm is still annoyingly sore, so not as much of the more "frantic" types of games for me right now.

Now managing over 100k for each of first three levels. Just too many bullets after that for my skills. For now, anyway. :D

It'll be a number of days before I even make another attempt, myself.

My computer's sanity is currently in question, which led to 2 discoveries.

First, I discovered that I need way more RAM. This explains why bloody Minecraft and various other things keep crashing and why Java keeps flipping out over and over.

Second, in opening the case to have a look at the RAM slots, I discovered what may be sentient dust. So.... much.... dust. Spiderwebs too. Actually couldnt tell where the video card (which is one of them huge ones) was for a bit, because it looks like a solid grey block. Damn thing is a MESS.

Blasted machine cost a rather silly amount to have built, so I'm not letting either issue sit for long. Damn thing is likely gonna have to go to the shop for a few days, much to my continuous annoyance.

Which means AGH NO NET ACCESS for a few days unless I wanna use the iPad's screwball browser. Which I rather dont. The thing is good at games. It is NOT good at browsing.

I've got the MVS cart of this so I'll try to rustle up a score the 11th of April. I've got an old score from last year of 1.1million, but I doubt I'll be able to repeat that (I had to beat the first loop to get that score - the last boss is hard and you basically have to beat him on one life).

Yah boo, Vy. Thought I might just, just, just have a chance of sneaking into 5th at some stage and getting in a nom at the end. I'll keep trying to better myself, but I've been stiffed now for a Top 5 placing. Bah! :D Way to go, though, Vy. :D

Another one to the mentalness of the Stage 8 club. Only got there twice mind you.

Good submission Vy.

I haven't played sonic wings the last week, needed a break. I'll probably give it another blast before the end of submissions, I'm hoping the break will give me a bit more enthusiasm to keep going. Hopefully I won't go back to square one and start dying on the first few stages.

Strewth! Didn't see the 'copters until it was waaaaaaaaay too late. BAH! Still, this score was far less than the one below (last life as the subs popped up)!

Image

Sputryk - RYK - 447,200 - Stage 6 - F14 - MAME

Managing to stay consistent with level - losing all lives on L5 except for the few L6 entries. Very annoyed that I can't keep any specials for the boat section any more: that first pic was achieved by keeping some specials somehow, just need to relearn how; resulting in clearing all boats without loss of life at my first attempt! Pity the poor score to go with that run. Double BAH!

Still, edging up in score. Each post has been a PB, and I am already resigned to 6th place at best (just waiting Boson to show his trigger finger!).

The rank system in this game f#cking ruins it. i'm pretty much done with it, and my best score of over 800k i don't have a pic for. RAAAAAGE!

I was playing my new MVS cart Puzzle De Pon the other day but the difficulty on that game is so brutal that I decided to just take a shot at this instead. Beat my old score this morning.

After some pretty crap runs and a couple of game overs on the final boss I was lucky enough to get the ghost final boss instead of the normal one in this run. He got a bit nasty when he was close to death but for the most part he's a lot easier than the regular final boss, which is definitely a good thing in my book. There's suicide bullets in the second loop which makes it tons harder, so I was pretty pleased to beat 2-1 at least.

And don't give up!! It took me about 10 or 11 days to beat the first loop when I was playing it for the first time last year, I'm sure a few more guys on here will clear it before the 11th :)

Nice scores Mero and welcome to the league.

My love for the game has passed and now means it just entices rage. It's a good game but like I previously said, the rank system, ruins it. I'm taking a break and playing Mushihimesama and Mars Matrix. I'll put in a few credits here and there I can't afford to smash my AES up and that's where this game is sending me at this moment in time.

Edit: Played a few credits for the road. Seems when i stopped trying so hard I did better.

I did wonder if playing for survival and getting that 1st loop clear for the 3 point league bonus was the best way to approach this game. i've reached staged 8 before playing this way and only been on about 500k, so i opted to snag all the bonuses and not let any enemies (near impossibility) pass me by. Hi-en is key to this.

It's essential imo for a good score to get Brazil as stage 2 so you can take full adavantage of the Cz icons for 10k bonuses. 3rd place run was with Spanky. 2nd place with Rob heaton and the 1st place score with Hi-en, who just cleans up anything you miss.

Stage 3 and 7 are pretty important for scoring too. On my best run I had Brazil as stage 2 and finished Stage 3 with 395k score.. used no bombs until Stage 6 boss because i still get caught out by the last phase.. but went into Stage 8 with 3 lives and 2 bombs and on 800k. Stage 8 is not too bad if you have 3 lives because although the rank is high, as soon as you lose one life, those large helicopters take it easier on you. I can do the boss now and clean up all the tank bonuses they drop. Important for score as there are 12 in this stage, though 8 of them is nearer reality. 80-120k makes a big difference.

Overall all out offensive and with Hi-en is the best way for scoring high, though I like Spanky because his power up attack seems like you have a shield somtimes and lets you take bullets without dying if they're released at the right time. You can also hide behind them. Interesting.

I'm hanging up my coat for now, as i've lost the use of my select button on my AES arcade stick where i punched it, so I can't actually add credits anymore.

I managed to fix my arcade stick and couldn't resist a few more credits. Final credit of the day (and possibly for this current league game), was the 500k score.

I really think that's it for me, or at least for this week I think this is a pretty good score to keep me in the top 5 which is where i want to be really for nomination purposes. Points are a nice bonus of course, but we shall see what happens, still 9 days to go after all..

edit: In my MVS version the slowdown that occurs can actually help you on the Stage 6 boss. Not sure if this is possible via Mame. I use this to avoid the heavy attack moments and on my higher scores clear this boss unscathed. It also has it's downfalls though and there is a section on Stage 8 where you have 2 large helicopters firing double lines of bullet as well as symettrical plane formations swooping in from either side. There is so much slowdown here that you can't actually move your plane. I've died here on my last 6 credits where i reached stage 8. Let me know if anyone has similar issues running the original hardware or via mame throughout the game.
