Son of Rambow

I loved this, funny and heartwarming, and full of great touches - like the culture clash of French exchange student Didier, the granny who never speaks and the sixth form common room disco. But best of all is its wonderful British heart and the nostalgia for the early 1980s.

The 3rd is like a low budget remake of the first. Not as good, but nowhere near as bad as the second film. If you like them I'll recommend watching the animated series - Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. The CGI is showing its age a bit but it adds a lot of flesh to the bones of the characters that isn't in the films.

Strangely I've not read the books yet.

Yeah, I liked 'Starship Troopers'. It is sort of a sci fi satire. Haven't seen any of the sequels.

Last night I watched 'City of God' and its sort of sequel 'City of Men'. 'City of God' is an amazing film. Set in sunny Brazil and a story about the gangsters in that country. One of the best films of the 2000s - in my opinion. The sort of follow-up just didn't excite me. The characters weren't as compelling as the original film's.

Starship Troopers was the fist DVD I ever watched, it made me go out and buy a player the very next day. Some tank like Toshiba unit! I think its a really good film. As for the follow ups........ What I cant undertsand is why they werent done better. Was the first film a commercial flop or something? Shame if it was.

I know it was panned by critics, money-wise I think it earned a few mil over it's astronomical budget. Love the film though, must have watched it a hundred times now. I think I've caught the sequels on late-night TV but never really watched them avidly. Might have to track them down now..

I started watching Firefly last night, it certainly isn't as good as I remember it being...I mean it's a great series, well acted & everything, I just remembered it being better. Ironically I think I once read that the Alliance troops in Firefly actually used costumes that were made for the Starship Trooper movies!

Watching 'Firefox' tonight on ITV4.
The best bit is the last 1/2 hour of it when it flies!

I would put that in my 10 most pointless, overrated and dull films list.

Really? For me that is a brilliant portrayal of how dull, meaningless and boring life becomes as you get older, have children etc. And a great reminder of how life was before the mortage, marriage, kids etc became the centre piece of it. And Kevin Spacey pulls the role off brilliantly if you ask me.
