Improvements to Retro Gamer

Postby netbear on Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:28 am

Dear Retro Gamer Magazine,

I have been a Retro Gamer Magazine Buyer / Subscriber since the beginning and have every magazine and related bookazine published so far.

I would love you to include a reprint of a Retro Gaming Poster (single sided - fold out) 4 times the size of the Mag in each edition. Perhaps even reprints of old sales or promotional posters of old computers or consoles.

Even large reprints of Arcade Flyers would be great.

I like many others have a games room or gaming area that I would love to decorate with old school Retro Gaming Posters.

I think I used to collect the posters out of C&VG Magazine.

Love your Mag and it gives me something to look forward to each month.

P.S. I did not really like Issue 100, it seemed a bit light on content and a little dull, the reprint of Issue 1 was Issue 100s salvation though.

Regards,

Danny McSweeney - Australia

I think it's a nice idea, but who is genuinely going to use them? Most of us are grown up and only a select few are lucky enough to have games rooms.

In any case, the extra cost will nix it.

Oh, and there's an issue 100 feedback thread, you can make more specific comments there :D

Retro Gamer is perfect. It needs no improvement imho. :)

Who wants a poster on the wall that's been ruined by folding?

Get yourself along to the Bob Wakelin or Oli Frey websites if you want some art for the wall.

No such thing as perfect, and I'm sure Darran and the rest of the staff are well aware of that. That's why they're always coming up with ways to improve the magazine. Not all of them work of course, at least not for everyone, but you can't please everyone all of the time.

What needs improvement is an alternative to the Binder. I have 2 of them but feel they dont hold the issues well enough, even tearing some pages.
Is there some sort of a magazine box or something that can hold these issues, maybe showing the spine out?

I loved getting posters with magazines, I have the Game Over one from Retro Gamer on my wall beside my computer. I don't like Future Classics or any of the reviews of modern games, I buy Retro Gamer because of the content about old games and systems, and new homebrew games for old systems, not reviews of new games on next gen consoles and Windows PCs.

It's a shame that nothing we say is going to change anything in the magazine. They know it will sell anyway, so it doesn't matter how much effort they need to put in anymore. I'm really only still buying the magazine because I've been getting it since the very beginning, I hardly enjoy each new monthly issue anymore.

So your own opinion should sway how the mag is made up? That's a little narrow minded. I don't necessarily like modern reviews but at least the ones that make it into the mag have some kind of link to a retro franchise - AND more importantly brings revenue into the mag to make it more viable.
Do you not enjoy it anymore due to the modern stuff? Issue 101 had future classics (2 pages) and modern reviews (4 pages) - leaving a measly 108 pages to retro and ads....... Mountain out of a molehill is one of the biggest understatements of the decade!

A tad unfair on the magazine, imho.

May I refer you to the recent discussions in this section of the forum regarding, among other things, the ongoing lack of Atari ST coverage in RG. Darran has admirably responded to such readership feedback in the magazine already and has pledged to include further such articles in upcoming issues. That's proof positive, to me at least, that RG/Darran does in fact respond to readership feedback. :D
