Speaking about Capcom, they just seem to love messing people around. Even with the announcement of different pre-order bonus maps depending on where you order Resident Evil 6 from. Who wants that!? The customer ideally wants the conveniance of all 3 maps in one place rather than giving us different bits of the game in different places. I have nothing against pre-order bonuses, think its a good idea personally for encouraging people to buy on release but dont mess around with it.

Arkham City did the same thing with Batman costumes, f**ks me right off. Retailers are so hell-bent on exclusive items it ends up making it worse on us

At the end of the day, I just want to buy a game disc and everything is on there - full stop. Anything like day one DLC, retailer-exclusive DLC/content, overpriced add-ons etc. just dilute the whole experience for me and I wish it would all just f**k off. The only good thing to come of all this is that retro gaming is more appealing to me than ever before since this sort of nonsense was less rampant 'back in the day' (unless you count PC expansion packs which I'm not sure count?).

Like retrojc says though, it's just how times have changed and I think we can moan about it as much we like - it's only going to get worse.

This has not been Capcoms best generation by a wide margin but I still think they are my favourite developer/publisher. I think like many Japanese companies who have outsourced their treasured IP's to Western development studios, the results have been decidedly mixed at best & disasters at worst. As for the DLC aspect, well I think most publishers will try to ring as much money out of customers as possible. However, nobody is forcing consumers to pay for it. People need to vote with their wallets if a companies stance is to change.

Capcom are just doing whatever they can to milk their customers before the Next Big Console Refresh happens and everyone forgets old practices. There's already google searches for Mass Effect 4, even though EA screwed people over the latest episode. Better Business Bureau have even found EA guilty of False Advertising over the game.

Not that anyone cares, obviously. They're just games, so it doesn't matter.

I don't really have a problem with Capcom either..yeah, they overuse DLC, but so do most other companies this generation....and some of their decisions with games have been a bit dubious, but I reckon that they're just trying to keep Western gamers happy when they should just stick to making games for the Japanese audience, 'coz that's how fans started liking them in the first place....

They made loads of groovy games right up until last generation, and to be honest I've enjoyed most of their games I've played this generation too! SF4 was one of my favourite fighting games ever, and once I got into RE5 I probably enjoyed it only slightly less than 4......

I reckon if people just stop buying DLC, all the overuse of it will quickly stop....of course, for that to work, you'd have to convince millions of teenage Americans to stop buying it all as well....

Seems to me their addiction to DLC is only an extension of how they were in the 8-bit and 16-bit days. I always thought of them as *very eager* to milk a franchise with sequels and updates e.g. Mega Man, SFII, Final Fight/Final Fight Guy etc. Except back then it costs £50 a pop to keep up with the franchises.
