I went into my local GAME armed with 15 Wii and DS games, and didn't trade in a single one. There was simply nothing I wanted, or nothing that I felt was worth trading in the games for. Free money, I know, but I would rather have three games that I might play on my shelf than one.

Well, I bought Mass Effect 3 & The Witcher 2 for a friend, so that's a start. :)

I'm not saying GAME will have this done to it, but doesn't it seem odd that they're buying back all their £1.98 games for up to £12? Remember they have NO MONEY in the kitty as it is, so where's all this rampant generosity coming from? Their new investors or owners?

Just saying guys. By all means milk their stupidity to the bone, but make sure to spend all that store credit asap. Don't sit on it. Remember they cancelled that same credit when they went into admin last time too.

I hear what your saying Freestyler, there no way im gonna hang onto my credit to long, spent £38 of the £60 credit i had and will get rid of the rest next tiime i go in there.

Traded a load more stuff in today thanks to Cash Convertors having a load of cheap Wii games in and with the credit i had got...

Witcher 2
MGS HD Collection
Final Fantasy X111 -2 LTD collection boxset
UFC Trainer
The Last Story LTD boxset.

Still got about £30 left on a gift card so im toying with the idea of getting a 3DS from there if i haver a good weekend at the carboots. If not theres a few more games im after and some XBLA points.

Also noticed Gamestations doing the deal now. Had a quick look at the poster on it and theres no mention of it not being for cash although it says terms and conditions apply please ask in store.

It's fair enough that the Ts and Cs give an individual store or manager the power to tinker with the terms of the deal, but surely they can't then continue to advertise the old deal? That would be like an Apple Store advertising iPads for £10 and then refusing to sell them to anyone for that price on the basis that they just don't feel like it.

My argument with Game is not about their right to set the terms and conditions of a deal, which is obviously fair enough. It's about them not communicating those terms and conditions clearly to the consumer, and from that point of view I still think there's a case to answer.

I know this has been pretty much covered already by the other posters but I think we had this discussion before with a different offer/retailer ages ago. Where I work, we honour posters/tickets that are wrong but only within the range of roughly £5 difference. Happens very regularly.

Ahh, that one's easy. The price ticket isn't actually set, it's an Invitation to treat. It's inviting you to make an offer to buy it at that price. So it's entirely possible to take the item to the checkout only to be told that the shop now want to charge you another tenner. Once you have bought the item you have agreed to the price and the transaction is complete. The shop doesn't have to sell it to you for that price if it doesn't want to. Finding an Xbox 360 with a 49p sticker on doesn't mean you get it for that, since the shop can simply refuse to agree to sell it, therefore nullifying the treat price. The Retailer (by Law) has full Rights to refuse to sell, no matter how much people argue.

It works the other way too. Just because the ticket says 50p doesn't mean you can't offer 3p either. It's an Invitation to treat price. Both sides have to agree for the transaction to take place. Just think Market stall haggling. Same thing.

Been working in Selby today so I went and picked up six battered old PS3/360 footy games for a quid each from Grainger. Took them to GS when I got back to York and flogged them for £23.50.

^ So they really aren't fussed then?

If I play my cards right I could effectively get another PSP for a tenner!

See now when i asked them about this they said they wouldn't take the old sports games. Might ask again at a different shop.

Nope, they didn't even open the cases before they handed over the gift card. I traded in a few other bits of my own and ended up with over £80. Bought Pandora's Tower and DKC Returns, but the latter is covered in scratches and is going back tomorrow. I'm not paying £27 for a used game only to find it looks like a dog's chewed it, even if I got the £27 for nothing in the first place.

But now what? Do I play Pandora or leave it sealed and sell it for a fortune in a couple of years?

Going by most of the reviews I'd be tempted to leave it sealed, as I'm getting the impression that it's a game that you'll need to learn to love. It certainly doesn't sound in the same league as Xenoblade, Skyward Sword and The Last Story.

Got this email from Gamestation yesterday:

Hi Paul,

We are gutted we have had to shut your local gamestation store at 172 Friargate, Preston.

So you don't miss out on your gaming fix, we wanted to let you know that your nearest gaming specialist is GAME at 78 Fishergate Walk, St Georges Centre, Preston.

Come and check out your new store! Bring the voucher below and you can get a free Reward Card plus 1000 points when you purchase anything in-store before 30th April*. You can also transfer your Elite balance onto your new Reward Card, just ask one of the crew.**

If you have any outstanding pre-orders at your previous store, don't worry, these are safe and have been automatically transferred to your new GAME store.

Most importantly, we want to say thanks for being an awesome customer, we really appreciate your support.

The Gamestation Elite

The thing is they expected me to buy something after they went through? :?

For a week my local Game had a sign hung in the window after they closed saying that my nearest specialist videogame store was the Game at the out-of-town retail park, not the Gamestation two streets away. It's since been amended.
