I do think Le Mans is a better racer than MSR though. Looks great, drives fantastically. DC is so awash with great racers though, the Kart racers (Looney Tunes, Wacky Races) are also excellent, although sometimes a bit cheap. Just don't go anywhere near Pod 2 - it's one of the most soulless games I've ever played.

^ Pod 2 looks like a work of genius compared to Spirit of Speed or Roadsters (although strangely the N64 version of the latter was OK).

sadly Roadsters is one of my games I picked up - but it was cheap and I liked the picture on the front

(thanks retro martin for the recommends over the page - certainly a lot of them are on my wanted list)

Oh Roadsters, Exhibition of Speed and Spirit of Speed are all diabolical. I really thought I could cope with even the worst games, but Exhibition of Speed really pushed that theory. South Park Rally looks great compared to them, and thats saying something.

Haha, I can't help but laugh everytime I think of the Roadsters story.

They developers spent MILLIONS trying to acquire all the car manufacturing licenses, just for the game to end up being universally panned by critics and players alike.

EPIC FAIL

the dreamcast is my favorite retro console, with the n64 and ps1 a close 2nd!

I remember being fortunate to get my dreamcast the 1st xmas it came out and it was superb, It was a crying shame the way it ended production. I also remeber the thrill of seeing some of these games in my local arcade, and knowing that great conversions for them would end up on my dreamcast one day.

Also I have to say, and I dont know if anyone remember's but xmas 2000 was one of the best times to be a gamer ever. That xams dreamcast owners had shenmue, quake 3 arena and jet set radio come out around that period in time.

Great collection of games, great console, just make sure to keep it well ventiliated!

Also if you scan ebay you can pick up new pads/rumble packs and vmu units for a couple of quid.

As for games to check out if you are new to the dreamcast I would check out sonic adventure, shenmue 1 and 2 powerstone 2, project justice, skies of arcadia, code veronica, jet set radio, wacky racers...god there are to many games for it that are good!

I had one from soon after launch, but never really got into it. Main reason was the controller, which I never found comfortable. Anyway, I'd get Sega Rally and RE Code Veronica, although I haven't played them in a long time so can't say how well they've aged

Sega Rally 2 for DC was gash when it was released! A quick and dirty Windows CE rush job.

My nickname for Dreamcast will always be

'The 60fps console'

I mean, with the exception of a few titles (and I mean very few) nearly every single game I ever played on the Dreamcast was a silky smooth 60fps, with little to no drop.

When you think how many games on these current gen consoles even bother making games that smooth, or even attempt a 60fps target, very very little. Like they don't care. The dreamcast did however, and it showed.

Dreamcast was so ahead of its time, Its not even conjecture anymore, Its FACT

Were there really THAT many Dreamcast games which ran at 60fps?

It was sincere. No trick question - I'm not about to post an exhaustive list of all 60fps DC games!

For example, Rez on PS2 has double the frame rate of the DC version. Yes, the DC version was superior to the PS2 version in other ways but that's not the point in question.

Ahh ok, well I'll post as many as I can think of, which I had in my collection both then and now.

4 Wheel Thunder
Soul Reaver (the framerate on this game is a joke..so smooth, compared to the slow ps1 port)
Powerstone 1
Powerstone 2
F355 Ferrari
Wacky Races (singleplayer definately was, 4 player split screen was 30fps)
Most 2K Sports were i.e/ NBA2K, NHL2K, NFL Quaterback
Super Magnetic Neo (and other platformers like Kao the Kangaroo)
Deadly Skies
Virtua Fighter 3tb
Project Justice

My DC collection is at my familys home, so thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Will definately update my post tomorrow when I see my collection

It was not bad at the time, but its not all it could have been. I remember at the time that people were disappointed with this and the sega world wide soccer games on the dreamcast, as the saturn versions of the games where held in high regard, and are still considered better then the dreamcast sequels.

I still have to say that the version of soul calibur on the dreamcast is still the best version ever released. I rate it better then its sequels, and it massively shows up the disappointing soul calibur 5, the only soul game I dislike of the main series.

also a power stone 3 would be nice one day
