This game just aint happening for me. Waaaaaaaay too many bullets. Continued to what what lay beyond Stage 2 - found Level 3 to be quick simple, but the boss wasted me. Beyond that, lost each life in a blink. Doubt I will get beyond Stage 2 boss without full bombs, but need to use one on those 3 craft. Why oh why couldn't everyone have voted for Uridium... [sigh]

I'd been asking myself similar questions. I'd have happily PLAYED that game (even though I've never seen it before).

Donpachi though..... ugh. It's one of probably only 3 or so shmups that I cant even WATCH someone play, lest I pass out from boredom. It's just..... ugh. It's not JUST the scoring system with this one. Something about the game just BORES THE HELL OUTTA ME. Worse than Arrow Flash.

DDP does that as well; it's not AS dull, but I do still find it pretty boring.

Wheras DOJ isnt boring, it's just irritating and stupid.

I don't use bombs on the stage 2 boss. Stay dead centre with full laser. His first wave of attacks can't touch you with your laser on. When he begins to swoop from left to right stay centre but use minor movements to dodge between the pink laser attacks. You hardly have to move. After a few of his passes he will come back in from the right so you should be jut left of the centre line. Just stay here very close to the stream of attacks that come at you in a double stream that wave from left to right. You will not be hit if you make minor movements. I recommend being on the outside of these, but very close else you will get hit by his other laser attacks. Just repeat the process and don't use anything other than a laser. You can always bomb to speed up the process.

There are 2 types of bombs by the way. Bombing whilst using normal shot seems to clear the screen.
Bombing whilst using your laser Is like a super laser bomb attack
And very devastating to anything that gets in its path .

Try credit feeding and keep practicing the stage 2 boss. Honestly after a few goes you'll be no missing stage 2 once you have the boss' patterns down. He looks meaner than he really is.

I find the 3 planes earlier in the stage much harder to pass without bombing.

Hope this makes sense and helps you out.

Thanks for this the Level 2 boss has been causing me problems too, I have beaten him but it took a toll on my bombs!!

No worries Minty. There's probably a better way to do it or a more 'pro' way, but that's how i worked it out.

Anyhow, redeemed my lost score from yesterday and got a bit further into area 4. Can beat the Stage 3 boss without dying now, though still haven't no missed the stage.

Couldn't resist one more credit. Had hit the first extend at the end of Area 2. A first for me.

I feel close to a 1CC, my goal is to do it before Akai Katana is released. I'm OK with the first three stages now and most of stage 4 isn't a problem either but I sometimes get caught out by the return of the stage 2 planes. It's the bullets you don't see that get you... The other problem is the snipers at the bottom of the screen in stage 5, those really annoy me.

Missed far too many bonuses, resulting in this pathetic increase in score; my only saving grace being progression to Stage 4. Absolutely mauled about a third of the way through. Losing concentration, now. Probably no return for a few days. There is, though, no chance of a 1cc at this game.

It's a shame we couldn't tie the release in with the next game but I don't think everyone has Akai Katana. i still haven't really played it much since the JP release. Need to.

Great score by the way.

Hurray!

Got through the first loop with iirc two misses then somehow got down to my last life in 2-1. It's silly because having 7 bombs in stage 1 you can let them off practically constantly. Fortunately I bore that in mind and got through 2-2 (for the first time) without much incident. A stray bullet was may end in 2-3 but it was a long time coming anyway. Also it seems I must have missed some scoring opportunities since my max chain is so low. I have worked out where and how I got that 120 hit chain, though, it's the first mid-boss type enemy in stage 4, the one that shoots missiles that create circular explosions. If you speed kill/bomb it then a huge number of popcorn enemies show up which can be chained together.

I'm not sure how much I'll play this game. I will practise some of the loop stages but I'm not sure how many actual runs I'll do. It's definitely a fun game, though, my favourite of the league so far. :D
