A needless troll-like set of comments . Surprised we made it to Page 2 before the inevitable happened.

I find Pokémon gets ignored among the retro crowds for some reason, when actually it is probably one of the most remembered from back in the nineties. I was kind of surprised when Pokémon Emerald was pushed into the 'honorable mentions' section of the GBA article that was in issue 94... But my favourite Pokémon is Snorlax. Why? Cause it's a boss who just chills in the middle of roads and only wakes up when it needs eat. Also, it's quite cute when you think about it.

I thinks its because there aren't many 8 year olds in the retro community . . .

But there are plenty of people who were 8 at the time.

Its a strategy game. What's wrong with that? The only serious Pokemon player I know (and ever did) was a massive bloke in his 20s who worked at our gym. He'd grown up with them and still enjoyed them, so he'd play Pokemon on his DS while working reception if it was quiet of an evening.

Not a series I've ever played properly, but I wouldn't dismiss them without some merit.

The battle system of Pokémon, especially so in the later games, is definitely rather complicated and requires a lot of strategy and maths to figure out. Just watching a Wi-Fi battle commentary made me realise how complicated the battle system really is. When I was a kid and playing Pokémon I just spammed attacks and hoped to win, I never understood the battle system back then and in my honest opinion Pokémon is a game that only older people really master marketed as a game for kids.
