Think my 6 pokemon from RBY went like:

Gyrados
Charizard
Dragonite
Vileplume
Dugtrio
Articuno

However my favourite pokemon has always been butterfree.

noobish hat wrote:It's SO tragic that they canned trading between gen 2 and gen 3 (extra ridiculous when you consider the hardware would play both). Unless I'm mistaken it's the only borken link in the chain and if they'd included it, we would have been able to carry our original Pokemon all the way to the latest version of the game. Imagine having your very first starter Pokemon with you all this time. Would have been epic.

Well, it was difficult enough trading between R/B/Y and G/S/C. If you remember, you had to do it via the time capsule area of a Pokemon Centre and you couldn't enter with monsters that didn't exist in the older games (obviously) or original monsters with moves that didn't exist in R/B/Y.

I actually got a lot of my 'missing' Pokemon in the GBA games by trading between the two Gamecube games. Got Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Lugia, Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres, Ho-oh and loads of normal monsters that way.

I'm guessing that by the time it got to the GBA games, these complications only increased so the trading process just wasn't worth it. Plus, Fire Red and Leaf Green would be missing some of their desirability if you didn't need them to obtain missing Pokemon.

Trading between the GBA and first DS games was a nightmare as you could only 'import' 6 Pokemon a day. I had hundreds to transfer over so it took ageeeees :(

My son is an Oshawott fanatic , me its Snorlax - though my other half isnt keen on being compared to one.

Looking forward to finishing Soulsilver as apparently that unlocks gba trading.Sadly i dont have any of the gba pokemon games apart from a usa emerald , which im fairly sure wont work with a uk soulsilver.

Should also mention I'm a huge fan of Joltik from the current generation!

Anyway, was bored on the tube today so started mass breeding Joltik to begin my army! Bred about 14 of the little buggers today looking for the right nature and stat combination etc.....then the EV training can begin!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Also on an aside note - anybody with Black or White who wishes to trade with me I'm always up for it. I can't do the older games as my internet does not support WEP very well so B&W only I'm afraid. I have practically every pokemon (only missing 2 or 3 I technically *HAVE* and 4 that I just don't have at all) so if you need me to breed any of the little bastards then just ask! :D

I nicknamed my old car bulbasaur, so I guess he's my favourite. I didn't play the game but the name sounded funny. I remember going to watch pokemon the movie despite being in my 20's at the time, it wasn't as good as the powerpuff girls film :)

And out of the blue one of my GTS trades has trumped me a Mew so now all I'm missing is Celebi, Manaphy, Victini and I need to regain Slakoth and Porygon-Z!

Is the GTS better in Black & White? The one thing that pissed me off in the first gen of DS games was that you couldn't trade for what you hadn't seen so how could you put a search out for something like Mew? I got a lot of great trades in any case but it was so obvious that people were getting them with codes because of the sheer number of Lv.100 legendaries I could get in a short space of time over the GTS :?

Unfortunately this is still the case, can't seek what you haven't seen....

I got a friend who had caught everything to temporarily trade them to me to get them in my pokedex, then I gave them back and that way I could seek them. I put up a Groudon for that Mew and it's only taken a week or two to get. I've now put up a second Groudon (I spent a lot of replays of Ruby to get everything!) for a Celebi. WIll then do something similar for Manaphy and then regain Slakoth off Ruby and trade evolve a Porygon to Porygon 2 then Porygon Z and then I'm practically done.

Fair enough. How did he get a Mew though? I hate the idea of abusing codes but Nintendo really do make it impossible thanks to all their restrictive 'event'-based Pokemon. I just catch as many as possible without these and call it a day because it just doesn't happen unless you can do what you did with your friend. Even then, the online traders are obviously using codes which makes you wonder why they even need to trade :?

Um, not necessarily. Nintendo's 'event-give-aways' are largely online now. If you checked regularly on the official HG/SS website for example, they had days when they gave away legendary Pokemon. That's how I got Mew (about 15 years too late for any playground kudos, but whatever). I also got Jirachi from a give-away on the site too, as I recall. Not sure how you'd go about getting them now though. Perhaps they will start cycling through them again for owners of Black and White etc? Another good reason they should reboot and start again for a new generation of players - get rid of all that baggage.

Personally I preferred it when you couldn't get event Pokémon via Wi-Fi connection, as it made them so much more rarer, which is what made them so desirable. Nowadays you can get yourself a Mew, a Celebi or a Deoxys, or even all three in the space of a few hours if you use the Serebii Wi-Fi chat well. In recent years, when I download these rare Pokémon onto my DS they just don't seem so cool anymore, because you know everyone who has Pokémon Black or White and a Wi-Fi connection has them too, whereas when you went to an event you knew you were one of much less. When I got Jirachi on Ruby using my friends Pokémon channel disc I was absolutely thrilled! Back in the GBA games Nintendo really promoted the social aspect of Pokémon. It was really great!
