I don't have the review to hand, but seem to remember it got such a high score for the number of games included, the added Achievements and the bonus features including videos. At the time RG obviously felt it was worth their readers investing in it, and now at bargain prices surely it represents even greater value?
On the front of the case it says "98% Retro Gamer" - that didn't sell it to me, the false assumption there would be online co-op did - i know I should have done my research, then with a 98% score, you've got to expect it.

Plus you cannot compare it to what is available on emulation because emulation is not retail.
It is like saying Halo Reach is not worth £40 because I can download it for free.
Why can i not compare this to emulation/Mame when USMD is emulating all the games itself? All I did say was that it is 'like' playing Mame with a different skin, which it very much is. That is where i stopped the comparison. It was not a comparison of a games worth, or the availability of it being free. This has nothing to do with the games being free to download.
I also, said that
Some of the games on there may be some of the best the Mega Drive has
but
on a modern console these games need to have modern functionality
They do not have modern functionality - well online co-op.
