mmmmm, Avatar, you say. Very interesting. Amazon... Click...Order... 2.99 for 1000 gamerscore in 10 mins... priceless

Sounds awfully cheap! You know it's 'Avatar: The Legend of Aang - The Burning Earth' and not 'Avatar' the movie tie in that has the easiest ever 1000 gamer points?

high scores, online matches, head to head, yes,

gamerscore, no.

There are some achievements that require skill

Player 1 has 1000/1000 gamerscore on Street Fighter 4
Player 2 has 200/1000 gamerscore on Street Fighter 4

They have 10 matches, player 2 destroys him 10 times, who is the better player?

Player 1 has 200/200 gamerscore on Metal Slug
Player 2 has 10/200 gamerscore on Metal Slug

Player 1 has a high score of 1 Million
Player 2 has a high score of 6 Million

Who is the better player?

A high gamerscore is no measure of skill.

You've made a straw man out of what retrojc said, which is unfair.

He never said that gamerscore was the measure of score, or even a measure of skill. He said that some Achievements require skill. Completely different thing.

He's misquoted, he should have quoted Stvd, not RetroJC, as its Stvd who reckons gamerscore equates to skill if you read the posts a little further back.

Now you have misquoted!

I never once said "gamerscore equates to skill".
My original comment was

Completing a game 100% takes a certain level of skill.

Too much misquoting going on, I can't keep up! Regardless, my point still stands: to say "There are some achievements that require skill" (whoever said it) is not the same as saying that gamerscore is a measure of skill. And I'm inclined to agree with whoever said that about Achievements; there are many individual ones that are really tough to obtain and require a lot of skill (some of the ones in Limbo and Super Meat Boy spring to mind).

The guy is in the Guinness Book of Records.
It makes no difference how he achieved his score, what challenges he did/didn't complete.
Who decides what's a credible challenge?

It doesn't take skill, it just takes time. So many games offer easy points, so anyone with enough time can play enough of those games without ever really stretching ourselves to the limit in terms of difficulty.

It'll be hard to beat him now just because of the lead he has, anyone else trying will have to really knock in the hours as he'll have been accruing easy points for years.

There's lots of Guinness records that require no skill. Sit in a bath of beans for longest? Not a great test of skill.

I'll just requote this...

Play lots of games badly, get all the easy achievements, no need to 100% everything or get the really hard stuff, accrue high gamerscore. No skill required.

Yes but there are also many achievements that do ceratinly require skill, so where does that leave this brisk debate?
Also, how long before someone starts getting uppity and the thread is locked?

There's not really a debate about gamerscore, only the fact its possible to get a high one without really being very good at games.

We all agree that some achievements require skill and I think the general concensus is that some achievements can add to a game, but most are just lazy throw ins.
